Since taking office, President Joe Biden has given people plenty of reasons to criticize his seeming disregard for the concerns of struggling Americans, but choosing the one-year anniversary of the suicide attack on the Kabul airport that killed 13 U.S. servicemembers to leave the White House for an appearance on comedian Jay Leno’s car show has earned him a new level of disgust, including that of the father of one of the fallen Marines.
“He is tone deaf and insensitive,” Darin Hoover, father of Taylor, a Marine staff sergeant who was killed on August 26, 2021, told the Daily Mail. “It’s ridiculous”
After issuing a statement on the Kabul airport tragedy that left many angry rather than comforted, Biden departed for yet another Delaware vacation, to be marked by an appearance on “Jay Leno’s Garage” and an opportunity to take his sweet, gas-guzzling Corvette out for a celebrity-fueled spin.

“It was a lot of fun,” the President told reporters of the closed-set taping. “We talked about how electric cars are going to change the nature of our environment.”
“It was even more fun driving my old corvette…” he continued cheerfully. “And they had that Ford Lightning vehicle, got to drive that again too. That was a fast SOB.”

Meanwhile, Hoover was at Arlington National Cemetery, laying a wreath in remembrance of his son.
Biden’s tweet did little to ease his grief.
“I don’t expect the world to stand still to celebrate our children but at least do something,” Hoover said. “We went to Arlington and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Why can’t he do something in memory of all 13? It needs to be reflected on and remembered.”
But apparently hanging out with Leno, who, as Deadline notes, backed Biden in 2020, sounded like a lot more fun to Biden than honoring the memories of those who were killed as a result of his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. And it’s way better than facing Americans, who are in ever-increasing numbers experiencing firsthand the surges in crime, inflation, and shortages that have befallen the country since he took office.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Biden has a 53.5 percent average disapproval rating — reason enough for any president to want to get out of D.C. in a speeding car.

“I despise this man…” wrote one user on Twitter. “‘Have you spoken to any of the family members of the 13 soldiers who died last year in Afghanistan?’ BIDEN: ‘Not today.””
“Yet he can find time to go hang out with Comedian Jay Leno,” the user added.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was left to defend Biden’s lackluster acknowledgment of the fallen soldiers. To do so, she invoked the memory of Biden’s son, Beau, who died from brain cancer after having served in the military.
“This is something that is very personal to the president,” she said in response to a reporter’s question about the timing of Biden’s taping of Leno’s show.
No president, she claimed, feels more strongly about military members and their families.
“He knows this as a father himself of a service member that served in Iraq,” she stated. “So we do not take this lightly. We take this very seriously and you know, our hearts are with the families today.”
