Big guns called in to save the Big Guy: Clooney, Obama, Julia Roberts to head Biden celeb fundraising

Committed to more than mere appearances, a fundraising ploy saw President Joe Biden’s campaign enlisting his former boss and some Hollywood megastars.

Amidst long-running suggestions that the incumbent’s tenure has truly been little more than a third term for former President Barack Obama, the 44th executive hasn’t remained shy about stepping in as a surrogate toward securing a fourth term for the left out of the last five.

Now, according to a report from NBC News, Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign is getting another celebrity leg up running into mid-June with a promotion featuring Academy Award-winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

Prior to a Los Angeles fundraising event meant to rival the March high-dollar gathering at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall that had featured former President Bill Clinton in addition to Biden and Obama, the actors were expected to be featured as part of a contest running on social media designed “to engage the campaign’s grassroots donors and bring in the entirety of our support network.”

Further, it was explained that there would be advertisements, emails and text messages issued by the campaign to rope in contributions from average Americans.

“The campaign plans to promote the Los Angeles fundraiser in a fashion similar to the glitzy evening Biden held with Obama and former President Bill Clinton in New York City in late March, which brought in $26 million,” reported NBC News. “Biden campaign aides said that amount was a Democratic fundraising record for a single event.”

In the past, Clooney hasn’t remained silent regarding his politics, even as a detriment to his own bank account, and had admitted during a Dec. 2021 interview to turning down a $35M gig to do one day of work for an airline commercial. “It was [associated with] a country that, although it’s an ally, is questionable at times, and so I thought: ‘Well, if it takes a minute’s sleep away from me, it’s not worth it.'”

During a separate interview, he’d also pushed leftist talking points about the border under Trump’s administration and had said, “But I would be so ashamed if, for instance, in this last Trump regime, I hadn’t been on the record of being against some of the horrible things he’d done. My kids would be like: ‘So, they were putting kids in cages and you didn’t say anything?’ The blowback is nowhere near as bad as the shame I’d feel.”

For her part, Roberts had appeared in the Obama-co-produced Netflix film “Leave the World Behind” which had been widely criticized for anti-white messaging.

Outspoken conservative actor James Woods had said in reaction to the film, “The Obamas are two of the most influential people on the planet. Politics aside, you have to agree that their potential power to create good in the world is monumental.”

“That’s why seeing that power used to promote racial hatred is deeply disappointing,” he added.

After Trump had reportedly surpassed the Democrat’s $26 million fundraising record with his own event at nearly double the haul with more than $50 million a campaign adviser acknowledged that, with the GOP leader now all but the official nominee for the party, they expect stiff competition with raking in contributions.

“We’re not under any illusion that he’s not going to narrow the gap,” the adviser told NBC News. “But what he can’t get back is the time we’ve had with all this money to do what we’ve done.”

Federal Election Commission filings said Biden’s campaign had $85.5 million cash on hand as of the end of March, leaving their combined figures with the Democratic National Committee at around $131 million compared to Trump and the Republican National Committee at about $67 million as of that point.

However, ahead of the May 20 filing deadline for April fundraising, it was said that the Trump campaign would be reporting a combined sum of around $76 million with the RNC.
