Bill Maher claps back at artists boycotting July 4 celebrations in fiery rant

Bill Maher accused Democrats of sending the wrong message as he called out musicians who have made an about-face on participating in July 4 celebrations.

The host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” said artists and performers who dropped out of President Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 concert are proving critics right about how Democrats feel about the nation.

“They all pulled out,” Maher noted on the show, referring to the musicians who have pulled out of the free concert performances honoring America’s 250th birthday because of so-called politics.

“This is a question about what looks best for the Democrats, because I don’t think that looks good. It looks like you are just what people say about you; you don’t really love America. It looks [like] you think Trump is more important than the country itself,” Maher criticized.

“Now it’s just a big MAGA rally, this whole thing,” he added. “Now it’s Trump and Lee Greenwood. Wouldn’t it have been better to play this gig? Can’t we all just celebrate America itself and leave Trump out of it?”

The president announced that Greenwood will be performing as well as the US Army Band, Armed Forces Choir, US Marine Band, and Joint Armed Forces Chorus. He blasted “singers with no talent” in a Truth Social post.

“We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home,” Trump wrote. “All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played, the same Music you have listened to for years!”

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, a guest on Maher’s show, argued that it is Trump who has politicized the celebrations by “essentially shutting down the citizens who were leading it and turning it into a big MAGA event.”

“There was a nonpartisan, apolitical effort to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. And instead of just letting that effort go forward, Donald Trump took it over, right, to create a parallel set of events,” he claimed.

“My understanding is these artists thought that they were going to the nonpartisan effort. And then when they found out it was just a predicate to a Trump rally, they didn’t want to be part of it,” the Connecticut Dem added. “I think this would have been a lot better for the country if Trump had decided to just let professionals, let people who just care about celebrating America with no political agenda be part [of] this.”
