So-called moderate North Carolina Senate candidate Roy Cooper, a Democrat, is ready and willing to hobnob with socialists to win elections.
Undercover video footage obtained by Fox News showed the former N.C. governor recently saying he wouldn’t sign the Promise to America, a political pledge launched by centrist Democrats to counter the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America.
“I don’t see any need to,” Cooper said in the video. “I think the party needs a wide spectrum, particularly at a time when the Republican Party is shrinking and having all kinds of loyalty tests. I think we need to have all kinds of folks to be a part of our party.”
In other words, he’s totally fine with socialist nutjobs flooding the Democratic Party, so long as it means he gets to win elections.
Cooper’s admission strongly suggests the North Carolina Republican Party had a point when they pushed an AI-generated image to Facebook last April depicting Cooper in a Bernie Sanders T-shirt.
Look:
In a lengthy post accompanying the photo, the party described the many similarities that so-called “moderate” Cooper shares with Sanders.
“[H]is record is indistinguishable from the Vermont Socialist,” the party wrote. “Taxes? Bernie voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill, which prevented the largest tax increase in American history. Cooper did one better: not only did he oppose the President Trump’s bill, he has a record of vetoing tax cuts for North Carolina families.”
“Border Security? Bernie has repeatedly opposed President Trump’s efforts to secure the Southern border and supports ending deportations and ICE raids,” they added. “Cooper also did better: he vetoed legislation requiring Sheriffs to cooperate with ICE three times and was responsible for over 500 illegals being released into North Carolina communities.”
The party also drew attention to Cooper vetoing bills that would have kept boys from playing in girls’ sports.
Cooper has also been accused of letting violent criminals back out onto the streets:
MUGSHOT MONDAY
This is Decarlos Brown’s mugshot after he was booked for murdering Iryna Zarutska aboard a Charlotte train one year ago.
He was arrested 14 times prior. Why was he walking NC streets?
Because Roy Cooper released him from jail. pic.twitter.com/APhBIRp9hj

In fairness to Cooper, his campaign explicitly said he’s “not” a socialist.
“The only pledge Roy makes is to the people of North Carolina,” his campaign told Fox News. “Roy is not a socialist, and he will work with anyone, including Republicans, as he has done his entire career to lower costs for hardworking families and fight for North Carolina.”
But this isn’t stopping the GOP from keeping up its attacks.
“Roy Cooper is campaigning with socialists, tying himself to radical groups, and fundraising with some of the most insane Democrats in the Senate,” Republican National Committee spokesperson Emma Hall said in a statement. “Cooper can lie about being a moderate all he wants, but he can’t hide the company he keeps.”
The RNC added that he’s good “buddies” with the most “progressive” of leftists, including Jon Ossoff, Mark Kelly, Chris Van Hollen, and Chris Coons. Van Hollen is the idiot who befriended a former MS-13 gang member last year to own the Republicans and especially President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, a report from Joseph Backholm of NC Values argues that though Cooper campaigns like a moderate, he governs “like a socialist.” To back up his report for The Federalist, Backholm cited oodles of evidence.
“In 2023 [Cooper] vetoed legislation that would have protected children from sex-denying medications and surgeries,” he wrote. “When the ACLU sued over COVID-era prison conditions, his administration released thousands of inmates.”
“Eighteen of them, according to a New York Post investigation, were later charged with murder,” Backholm added. “If he governed to the left in Raleigh, why would anyone believe he’ll govern to the center in Washington?”
