Former Fox News kingpin Bill O’Reilly set social media atwitter when he blasted Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker for going after guns in the aftermath of an Independence Day shooting in Highland Park that claimed seven lives, even using the Founding Fathers to do so.
“Our Founding Fathers carried muskets, not assault weapons. And I don’t think a single one of them would have said ‘you have a constitutional right to an assault weapon with a high-capacity magazine,” Pritzker said at a press conference. “I am angry. We as a nation deserve better.”
The Democrat governor said “there is no better day and no better time” to talk about gun control, and called gun violence a “uniquely American plague.”
“A day dedicated to freedom has put into stark relief the one freedom we as a nation refuse to uphold — the freedom of our fellow citizens to live without the daily fear of gun violence,” Pritzker said.
The remarks set O’Reilly off something fierce, as he slammed Pritzker for refusing to address the real issues at play in a surrender to racial politics.
“You, J.B., are not gonna stop loons, and you won’t stop crime, drug crime, drug gangs, because they’re minority gangs,” he yelled. “That’s why you won’t stop them! You phony! You aid and abet this murder in Chicago every blankin’ day. You! Don’t be sanctimonious with me!”

Robert “Bobby” Crimo, an apparently mentally disturbed rapper, was identified as the shooter and was soon taken into custody. Par for the course when it comes to mass shooters, he gave off plenty of warning signs, including an obsession with violence, and was known to police after an attempted suicide and making threats against family members. Somewhat ironically, though sad, is that Illinois is one of the states that have red flag laws, yet Crimo was able to legally purchase the firearm he used in the attack.
The real crisis in America is an abject failure to deal with mental illness, with the left bemoaning the alleged violation of civil liberties. Meanwhile, clearly disturbed people by the thousands are left on the streets to wreak havoc in society, with our jails being the unplanned alternative to the mental institutions of old.
As for Democrats yielding to racial politics, that has been going on since the 1960s as the party panders to minority demographics in exchange for votes, offering trinkets while doing little to provide long term benefits.
Not that people won’t be aghast over O’Reilly pointing out the obvious in an expanded view of the push for gun control. Incapable of seeing the bigger picture — or unwilling to — they instead rush to call him a racist and point out that the shooter wasn’t a minority and wasn’t in a gang. In addition to a mental illness crisis, there is a problem with lawlessness in our society, with Democratic prosecutors’ soft-on-crime approach making America more dangerous.
Lest we forget, Monday’s display of lawlessness came a week after Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot stood in front of thousands of concertgoers to declare, “F*ck Clarence Thomas.”
It seems diversion is all the left has, as Joe “Pags” Pagliarulo suggested in a tweet pointing out the lack of a countering argument:
