A Boston University staff member caught the attention of Elon Musk when he was called out for seeming to threaten DOGE employees.
Listed as an assistant media technician at Boston University, Jared May reportedly targeted Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) workers in a post on the social media site Bluesky. He shared a graphic that purportedly included images of some who allegedly work for DOGE along with the text, “WANTED FOR TREASON, DEAD OR ALIVE.”

The graphic also included the names of the men pictured in the post.
The Boston University employee webpage for May appears to have since been removed and a representative for the school gave a statement to Boston.com.
“We are aware of a post made by an employee on his personal social media account…. We do not comment on personnel matters. The views expressed do not reflect the values of Questrom School of Business,” the statement read.
Leah Foley, the new U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, said Wednesday that “I can tell you we are investigating.”
“We take those threats seriously,” Foley told reporters, according to The Boston Globe.

Musk, who heads up the department that President Donald Trump has tasked with slashing government waste, commented on a post shared on X by the popular Libs of TikTok account.
“He has committed a crime,” he wrote.

“Someone at @DOGE should seriously look into the millions of funding that @BU_Tweets gets from nearly 2 dozen federal agencies,” the account stated in another post that got a response from Musk.

According to the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, evidence that has initially been reviewed “indicates that certain individuals and/or groups have committed acts that appear to violate the law in targeting DOGE employees.”
“We are in contact with the FBI and other law-enforcement partners to proceed rapidly. We also have our prosecutors preparing,” Edward Martin Jr. said in a statement.
Social media users on X expressed their shock and anger at May’s post.
I’m not a fan of cancel culture but this is an actual crime. Calling for the death of people should not be tolerated and is not protected by the first amendment.

Wow, Jared’s call for violence is alarming. @BUQuestrom
& @DOGE
need to investigate. With federal funding at stake, this isn’t just about him but about our trust in institutions. Hope everyone’s safe.”— Sleem (@SleemMetaX) February 4, 2025
Hey @BU_Tweets care to comment on an employee openly calling for individuals to be murdered? It’s absolutely despicable if you don’t immediately terminate the employee.

How are people like May so stupid? You can feel how you feel but promoting assassinations is not acceptable.
