Brazen ‘porch pirate’ didn’t even wait for package to be delivered!

Perhaps emboldened by an apparent lack of consequences for crime in today’s climate, thieves are getting more and more cocky with how they steal.

WRIC obtained doorbell footage of a man in Chesterfield County, Virginia taking a package straight from a FedEx employee’s hands, then running back to a vehicle parked on the street and speeding away.

Watch:

According to the report, the suspect lied to the delivery driver and claimed he lived at the home in question before snagging the package and making a run for it. Jessica Saenz, the owner of the home, recalls hearing a frantic knocking at her front door on August 24 while she was working.

“I was in a meeting and then the FedEx lady started knocking on my door like, really hard,” she said. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’”

The poor delivery driver broke the news that the package, containing an iPad purchased by Saenz’s spouse, was gone. A neighbor, identified as Johnny Eubanks, witnessed the moment the brazen thief made off with his ill-gotten gains.

“It’s kind of crazy. I’ve never seen anything like that before. You know, usually people are sneaky about it. People are pretty desperate now.”

Authorities claim the vehicle the suspect made off in, a white BMW, is suspected of having been used in another recent crime. They are asking anyone with knowledge of the crimes or suspect to contact Chesterfield Police at 804-748-1251.
