Chris Christie plays victim over Trump’s fat-shaming, shares 20-year struggle with his weight

Republican White House hopeful Chris Christie played the victim card in response to former President Donald J. Trump’s fat-shaming, revealing to CNN’s Jake Tapper that he has struggled with his weight for decades.

The former New Jersey governor and ABC News pundit officially entered the race on Tuesday despite having virtually no shot at winning. But as it has been made clear, his role is to be a “kamikaze” who will inflict severe damage on the current GOP frontrunner who reacted by posting a doctored video of the morbidly obese Christie making his announcement at a buffet line while holding an overflowing plate of food in his hand.

On Wednesday, the human torpedo sat down with Tapper who asked him about Trump’s sharing of the buffet video, with Christie resorting to the same type of name-calling that he criticizes the ex-POTUS for engaging in.

“Trump, uh, in response to you last night to you running, ran a rather mocking video on social media,” Tapper said, teeing up the video. “I guess he’s making fun of your weight… that’s his response, what do you make of that? What was your response to that?”

Christie responded, “You know, when I saw it, Jake, it just renewed in my own mind what a child he is. He’s a baby.”

“Whenever you want to criticize him, in any way, that’s the way he responds,” he said, “And you and I are both lucky enough to be parents and if we had a child who conducted themselves like that, we’d send them to their room, not to the White House.”

“And I think character is destiny, for this country,” he continued. “And we’ve gotta make a decision about what the character of the person should be who sits behind the desk in the Oval Office.”

“And if they’re gonna do that kind of stuff, I mean, it’s so childish. It’s so juvenile. He is such a spoiled baby that… beyond that, what can you even say about something like that that’s that ridiculous?” Christie asked.

“If you want to break news here today,” he added. “I’ve struggled with my weight for about 20 years like tens of millions of Americans.”

“The devil you say!” Tapper exclaimed.

“Right. exactly,” Christie said. “So he’s breaking news there, he’s telling people something that they don’t know, in the end for me, it’s about how you perform as a person, what kind of heart you have and I’ll put mine up against his any day of the week.”

Christie later took to Twitter where he shared a video of his sit-down with Tapper and reiterated his bashing of Trump.

“When a spoiled baby misbehaves, you send them to their room, not the White House. At his advanced age, it is time to give up hope that Trump will ever grow up. We need a leader, not a child,” he wrote.

“Breaking news… I have struggled with my weight for 20 years. What I haven’t struggled with is my character. I’ll put that up against Donald Trump’s any day. If that’s the best he’s got, then he’s lost his fastball,” Christie added in another tweet.

Whether Christie’s baby-shaming of Trump will deter future fat-shaming is yet to be seen but it’s probably safe to say that jabs at his considerable girth from the former president and his team are only beginning.
