Chris Christie talks 2024 run, boasts that he has a ‘good chance’ to take down Trump

It’s like 2016 all over again with Donald J. Trump looking like a runaway express train as the former president steams toward the Republican party’s 2024 nomination but Chris Christie believes that he may be the one who, unlike so many others who have tried in vain, has the right stuff to take him out.

The former New Jersey governor, whose last flirtation with real politics was during the 2016 primaries as one of a crowded field who were dispatched by the gunslinging political newcomer, has been living the good life as a political commentator for ABC News but recent remarks are an indication that Christie still has a fire inside of his considerable belly and a yearning for a return to the arena, and as he mulls a presidential bid of his own, he’s feeling confident of his chances, especially against Trump.

“Look, I know what I’m good at. I know how to articulate an argument. I know how to make it. I know how to land it. And I feel like I have the ideas that people are generally attracted to. So if you have those things, you have a good chance to be able to do it. No guarantees, but a good chance,” Christie told Fox News of his chances of toppling Trump.

Referring to other potential rivals for the GOP nomination, he added, “as to the others, you guys will have to judge the others. I just know who I am, and I think you all know who I am and what I’ve been able to do before under the brightest of lights… lots of people can do things when the lights aren’t the brightest. But when those lights get really bright and everybody’s watching, can you perform or can’t you? And that’s a lot about what these races have to do with.”

Living off his past laurels, Christie recalled his demolition of then-candidate Marco Rubio which knocked the Florida senator off stride and out of the running.

“You better have somebody on that stage who can do to him what I did to Marco,” he told a crowd during a recent trip to New Hampshire, suggesting that only he is capable of vanquishing Trump.

In an interview with Politico that was published last week, Christie boasted that he called up an unnamed former GOP presidential candidate for advice on whether he should jump into the race to face off against Trump for a second time which he believes he could pull off by “taking direct aim at Trump’s weaknesses — his questionable character, his lack of discipline and, most of all, his losing record.”

“No one else has the balls to do it,” the unnamed ex-candidate allegedly replied to Christie whose tenure as New Jersey’s governor was marked by his brash confrontational manner and swagger.

The ABC News gasbag ripped Trump, telling a crowd that he “undermined our democracy” because “he was pissed” over losing the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

“He is the biggest loser for the Republican Party since Richard Nixon,” Christie also reportedly said, a real crowd-pleasing line but not one exactly rooted in historical accuracy with Nixon winning the presidency in 1968 and then pulverizing Democrat George McGovern in 1972 by a crushing 520-17 Electoral vote margin, at the time the greatest drubbing in history that was only exceeded by Ronald Reagan’s 1984 massacre of Walter Mondale.

Christie has also been throwing his weight around by attacking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who he could be seeking to displace as Trump’s top GOP rival for the nomination, siding with the “woke” Disney, defender of groomers and perverts that is currently getting its ass kicked after picking a fight with the popular Sunshine State leader.

“I don’t believe Ron DeSantis is a conservative, based on his actions toward Disney,” said Christie. “Where are we headed here now, that if you express disagreement in this country, the government is allowed to punish you? To me, that’s what I always thought liberals did.”

“If he was so offended by the Reedy Creek District, why didn’t he do something the whole first four years he was there? It’s not like — don’t tell me that the governor of Florida didn’t know that Disney had its own governing body. ‘Cause if he didn’t, then he’s an incompetent,” he added in another jab at DeSantis during an appearance on the “Ruthless’ podcast.

Twitter users ridiculed the idea that Christie is the long-awaited Trump slayer that leftists and their RINO allies have been waiting for.

Others, like Geraldo Rivera are cheering him on.

Christie may talk a good game but few people are in Trump’s league and the ex-POTUS already seems to greatly enjoy needling him as he did with a fat-shaming post to Truth Social last year.

“I’m not a paid assassin,” Christie told Politico. “When you’re waking up for your 45th morning at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manchester, you better think you can win, because that walk from the bed to the shower, if you don’t think you can win, it’s hard.”

He added that Trump “needs to be called out and it needs to be called out by somebody who knows him,” Christie said. “Nobody knows Donald Trump better than I do.”
