DeSantis finally punches back: Top gov says leaders ‘don’t subcontract out their leadership’ to Fauci

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appeared to take a swing at former President Donald Trump Saturday with a message on ownership versus “excuses.”

The growing popularity of America’s Governor has seen him traveling the country, not only to promote his book, “The Courage To Be Free,” but also to motivate fellow conservatives on how to score victories rooted in American values. Fresh off a record-breaking fundraiser in New Hampshire, DeSantis traveled to Orem, Utah Saturday where he spoke at the state’s GOP Convention held at Utah Valley University.

After being enthusiastically introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), the governor took aim at ineffectual leaders who once installed, like “potted plants,” do nothing. He also fired off on those who refuse to own responsibility with an undeniable slight against Trump’s handling of COVID by abdicating much of the decision making to Dr. Anthony Fauci and his ilk.

“Leaders take the bull by the horns and make the decisions for themselves. They don’t subcontract out their leadership to health bureaucrats like Dr. Fauci,” DeSantis said, to cheering and applause.

Keeping with that theme throughout the address, the governor alluded to how his style, if not he himself, is what’s most needed to set the country on a course toward prosperity — unlike how Republicans have so often balked in the past, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

He said, “In times like these, there is no substitute for victory. Republicans need to shake the culture of losing that has developed in recent years. The time for excuses is over. We must get it done.”

Rather than appearing as though he had only adopted this posture recently to advance his own political career, DeSantis’ supporters in the Never Back Down Political Action Committee released their latest spot on why the governor is “the president America needs,” with the message “steel isn’t forged overnight.”

The rundown of his path serving in the military and Congress to his reelection as governor after pitting himself against Marxist ideologies in school, like critical race theory and queer theory, as well as his stance against the fear-mongering of Fauci, hammered home how effective decisiveness can be for the GOP.

DeSantis’ shot at Trump also came as Never Back Down promoted funding Trump’s relocation from Florida to California since the president had offered high praise for Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) while issuing statements bashing the Sunshine State that he calls home to further tarnish DeSantis’ record.

“Donald Trump has so deeply disparaged the state of Florida by calling it the ‘worst state,” Never Back Down PAC CEO Chris Jankowski said and added, “The good news is that since so many people are moving to the state of Florida, thanks to the incredible success of Governor Ron DeSantis, no one will notice when Trump leaves. The state of Florida will be better off when Trump takes his Soros-fueled, dumpster fire of a campaign to San Francisco, where it will fight right in.”

Whether this shift against Trump is a sign of an impending announcement remains to be seen.
