City council bans vaccine, mask mandates amid return to ‘COVID tyranny’

Remarkably, there is a growing movement to return to the “COVID tyranny” that swept the nation in the early days of the pandemic — at the same time, more and more areas are getting ahead of that effort by following the lead set by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and banning mask and vaccine mandates.

The town of Odessa, Texas, is the latest to go down that path amid reports of COVID-19 hospitalizations being on the rise — the Biden gatekeepers in the media were quick to report this week that Florida “is seeing the highest proportion of counties with ‘moderate’ COVID hospitalization rates,” as ABC News characterized events.

On Tuesday, the Odessa city council voted to prohibit the enforcement of any COVID-19 mandate implemented at the federal or state level, KOSA reported.

“Nobody’s gonna lose a job because they don’t get a stick or they have to wear a mask,” said city council member Chris Hanie, who put forth the resolution — Hanie said Odessa is not seeing a jump in cases.

“When they started threatening that they were gonna make mask mandates and vaccines, well how many things did you lose? We lost businesses, businesses were going under left and right, everybody was put into a position of ‘We’re gonna lose it’ so not this time,” Hanie added.

Republican state Representative Brian Harrison partnered with the city — Harrison served as chief of staff of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Trump administration.

“Joe Biden and his administration are trying to bring back Covid tyranny for round two,” Harrison told reporters.

“It is incumbent on states, freedom-loving patriots, elected Republicans,” he added. “I don’t care quite frankly what party you are. If you believe in freedom, it’s incumbent on you to stand up and push back against another round of COVID tyranny.”

The lawmaker filed the Texas COVID Vaccine Freedom Act to ban vaccine mandates in Texas, which was killed by the GOP-controlled state House, according to Fox News.

“I hope that tonight’s bold, brave action in defense of medical freedom, individual liberty, informed consent, I hope this causes city after city and other counties across Texas and across America to see the courage on display here and I hope the courage is contagious,” Harrison said.

Somewhat surprisingly, the City of Huntington Beach, California, voted last week to ban universal mask and vaccine mandates for COVID-19.

Coincidentally, the Food and Drug Administration just approved on Monday updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna targeting the omicron variant XBB.1.5.
