Clyburn laments past support for Clarence Thomas, suggests black justice is a race traitor

U.S. Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) lamented supporting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, suggesting that the conservative icon is a race traitor.

The South Carolina kingmaker appeared on this week’s edition of NBC’s flagship Sunday morning “Meet the Press,” where host Kristen Welker asked him about his backing for Thomas, who was confirmed in 1991.

“Do you stand by your decision to make the case for Clarence Thomas’s confirmation?” Welker asked after rolling footage of a younger Clyburn’s testimony praising his “friend” during his confirmation hearings.

“Absolutely not,” Clyburn responded. “You know, I have made mistakes in my life, and that’s one that I made. And I will own up to that mistake. The fact of the matter is I had faith and confidence in the fact that his background and experiences would instruct him in his professionalism, especially sitting on the bench.”

“I thought sure that he would be there upholding those precedents set down in 1954 in the Brown v. Board of Education decision. I thought that he would follow those court decisions that upheld the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act. I had no idea that Clarence Thomas would rebel the way he has against his own background and experiences,” he continued.

“He was raised by his grandfather, and he has shown very little sensitivity to the environment his grandfather grew up, down in Pin Point, Georgia, just south of where I now sit. And so yes, that was a mistake on my part, and I own up to it,” Clyburn told Welker.

The contentious Thomas confirmation hearings were another disgusting Democrat circus as then Senate Judiciary Committee chair Joe Biden presided over a sleazy spectacle featuring lurid allegations involving Anita Hill, a law professor who accused him of sexual harassment.

At the time, Thomas famously described the travesty as a “high-tech lynching” but one that ultimately failed because he was confirmed 52-48. But he has endured years of insinuations from bitter black Democrats that he’s an Uncle Tom, with Clyburn’s smear just being the latest of them.

During his NBC appearance, Clyburn also signaled that the Democrats will look to pack the Supreme Court if they regain power after Welker asked about 2024 – and possible 2028 – Democrat presidential hopeful Kamala Harris’ support for adding more leftists to the bench.

“She’s called for expanding the Supreme Court from nine justices to 13. Do you support adding four more seats to the Supreme Court, Congressman?” Welker asked.

“Yes, I do,” he responded. “I think that we are in a position now that calls from some significant actions taken by the Congress, and we ought to expand — and 13 is a pretty good number. A baker’s dozen would be a good number to have on the court. And I would hope we would get people on the court who will follow the constitutional underpinnings of this great nation of ours.”

Racist statements like his smear of Thomas are totally on brand for Clyburn, whose state will play a big role in who gets the 2028 nomination after it was once again moved to the front of the primary line by the DNC after lobbying by the longtime congressman and Democrat power broker.
