Rep. Liz Cheney may be treated as royalty by Democrats as co-chair of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, but her reelection prospects with her own constituents are looking dim.
And this is according to CNN, of all places, where the network’s data reporter gave a stark reality check for the so-called Republican from Wyoming in the state’s GOP primary set for Aug. 16.
“How do things look for her?” host Anderson Cooper asked Harry Enten on “AC360” Wednesday.
“Well, if you watched what happened in South Carolina, I bet you can guess,” Enten replied, referring to that state’s voting on Tuesday in which Rep. Tom Rice, who joined Democrats last year in voting to impeach former President Donald Trump, lost to state Rep. Russell Fry – a candidate backed by Trump.
“On Cheney, if you go over to Wyoming, look at her disapproval rating,” Enten said. “Essentially what you see is that it has doubled, more than doubled, gone up 40 points from before she voted to impeach Donald Trump to after voting to impeach Donald Trump.”
Viewers were then shown a graphic that displayed Cheney’s disapproval rating in her state, at 72% – world’s away from the 26% she had before she had voted to impeach the former president.
Enten dropped the bombshell that Cheney has about a 10% chance of winning the Wyoming GOP primary.
“If you look at the betting odds, whether or not she’ll win re-election, only about a 10% chance she’ll win,” he said.
“Given the political dynasty she’s from…that’s incredible,” Cooper responded.
