College football coaching legend Lou Holtz offered an inspirational message in response to the attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life.
Referring to Trump as “our leader,” he called on his followers to “do everything legally possible to support President Trump and his cause.”
The remark made clear where Holtz stands on the November election after he hinted back in February, “We need to coach America back to greatness!” Holtz posted on X on Wednesday.
“After every catastrophe, and this certainly is, we have to ask ‘what is important today,'” Holtz posted on X. “Today, we pray our leader has a complete and speedy recovery and that the left turns off the rhetoric for just a brief moment.”
“They tried to keep him off the ballot, to imprison him, to invite over 9 million illegal immigrants to out vote him, and now they tried to assassinate him,” he continued. “Our side should do everything legally possible to support President Trump and his cause. Nothing is more undemocratic than every attempt they have made to keep President Trump out of office.”

Holtz concluded, “It’s time we got back to the values that this country holds.”
Trump presented Holtz with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2020, and the iconic coach spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention.
In such a troubling time for the nations, social media users appreciated Holtz’s input — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
