Colombia’s president orders country to sell off all its state-run oil assets within the United States

Colombian President Gustavo Petro is apparently looking to go green, ordering the country to sell off all its state-run oil assets within the United States.

During a cabinet meeting this week, he declared that Ecopetrol cannot be “for death and not for life,” issuing the order governing the joint operations of the company and American-owned Occidental Petroleum which was scheduled to produce around 90,000 barrels of oil daily. Petro now opposes the operation due to its reliance on fracking, which he calls the “death of nature, and the death of humanity.”

“I want that operation to be sold, and for the money to be invested in clean energies,” he said. “We are against fracking, because fracking is the death of nature, and the death of humanity.”

“There is no other way for humanity but to stop the path of fossil fuels. This is not happening because the oil companies are beating us, because we are afraid of them. I am not afraid of them.”

This order comes after Petro and President Donald Trump butted heads over the return of illegal immigrants to Colombia, which eventually resulted in Petro backing down and embracing the returning “compatriots” with open arms.

As BizPac Review previously reported, Petro initially reacted by trashing the United States and Trump over the sudden return flights. Trump ran on enacting mass deportations during his 2024 presidential campaign and upon being inaugurated following his victory, got to work making his promise a reality.

This didn’t sit well with the former Marxist guerilla fighter, who posted about his displeasure on X:

“Trump, I don’t really like traveling to the US, it’s a bit boring, but I confess that there are some commendable things. I like going to the black neighborhoods of Washington, where I saw an entire fight in the US capital between blacks and Latinos with barricades, which seemed like nonsense to me because they should join together,” he wrote.

“I confess that I like Walt Whitman and Paul Simon and Noam Chomsky and Miller I confess that Sacco and Vanzetti, who have my blood, are memorable in the history of the USA and I follow them. They were murdered by labor leaders with the electric chair, the fascists who are within the USA as well as within my country,” the leader continued. “I don’t like your oil, Trump, you’re going to wipe out the human species because of greed. Maybe one day, over a glass of whiskey, which I accept, despite my gastritis, we can talk frankly about this, but it’s difficult because you consider me an inferior race and I’m not, nor is any Colombian.”
