Cops handcuffed as NYC justice system is flooded by migrants making up 75% of arrests in midtown

Newly arrived criminal aliens are reportedly flooding New York City’s criminal justice system at higher rates than officials care to admit.

“Police sources shared … a staggering estimate that as many as 75% of the people they’ve been arresting in Midtown Manhattan in recent months for crimes like assault, robbery and domestic violence are migrants,” according to the New York Post.

Over in Queens meanwhile, the figure is believed to be around 60 percent.

Making matters worse, according to the Post, is the fact that the Big Apple’s “sanctuary city” laws protect criminal aliens by preventing the police from tracking their immigration status and working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Police officers are prohibited from asking about the immigration status of crime victims, witnesses, or suspects, and therefore the NYPD doesn’t track data pertaining to immigration statuses,” a police spokesperson told the Post.

“New York City eliminated a tool to get rid of violent criminals — what a mess,” former Queens prosecutor Jim Quinn added. “The sanctuary city law is pathetic. It’s disgusting. It’s crazy.”

And then there’s the city’s lax bail guidelines.

“[P]olice sources say that word has gotten out in the shelters about the city’s lax bail guidelines — meaning migrants know they’re going to get kicked back to the street quickly after they’re nabbed,” the Post notes.

To his credit, Democrat Mayor Eric Adams has made previous calls for the City Council to modify the city’s “sanctuary” city laws.

“Right now, we don’t have the authorization to be able to go and coordinate with ICE. We have to follow the law,” he warned last week.

“I think the City Council should revise what was changed under the previous administration. Mayor Koch had it right. Mayor Bloomberg had it right. And I think we made a miscalculation through the previous administration,” he added.

The previous administration was that of radical leftist Mayor Kathy Hochul.

“I would say about 75% of the arrests in Midtown Manhattan are migrants, mostly for robberies, assaults, domestic incidents and selling counterfeit items,” a Midtown officer told the Post.

But the officer warned this figure itself is just an estimate because “you can’t be 100% sure [they’re criminal aliens] unless you arrest them in a shelter or they’re dumb enough to give you a shelter address.”

Another Manhattan cop also guessed that 75 percent of arrests “easily” involve criminal aliens, many who’ve been caught shoplifting pricey goods.

“They can’t be bothered with lower-end stores,” the cop said. “They like Lululemon and Sunglass Hut.”

The problem is also present in Queens.

“There are days we have so many migrant cases we have to call in for extra Spanish interpreters,” a law-enforcement officer at Queens Criminal Court House told the Post.

“Come on Mondays! Almost every case is a migrant,” another officer added.

Though most of the crimes involve domestic disputes or petty theft, sometimes criminal alien crimes involve matters far more serious.

“Venezuelan migrant Yurlex Daniel Guzman Quintero was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Aug. 28, accused of a deplorable act of sexual abuse against his girlfriend in which he viciously choked her and held a knife to her head,” the Post notes.

“The same day, migrant Dionisio Moran Flores was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court for allegedly raping his 5-year-old daughter. He was ordered held on $150,000 bail,” according to the Post.

Also present in NYC, aside from regular criminal aliens, are the criminal aliens affiliated with the vicious Venezuelan prison gang known as Tren de Aragua.

BizPac Review previously covered their takeover of a Colorado apartment complex:

According to the Post, the gang has also set up shop in NYC and “is already tied to hundreds of crimes, including the shootings of two NYPD cops who were trying to arrest a member in June.”

“Most of the people we arrest are professionals — these aren’t their first crimes,” one law enforcement source said.

The cop blamed the problem partly on the Biden-Harris administration’s weak border policies and partly on the city’s “sanctuary” city policy.

“Crime would be down significantly if there was a wall and we could account for everyone who comes into the country,” the cop said. “And more importantly, throw them out if they commit a crime.”
