Country singer Ella Langley cites ‘serious security threat’ in canceling Tulsa concert

Chart-topping country music star Ella Langley abruptly called off a scheduled show in Tulsa, Oklahoma, due to a “serious security threat” that could potentially endanger the safety of concertgoers.

The show, which was set to take place at the BOK Center, was cancelled after the threat raised sufficient concern with local authorities, staff, and the venue to merit the decision.

The 27-year-old artist whose hit song “Choosin’ Texas” set a record for 24 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart delivered the bad news to her disappointed fans in a social media post.

“Due to a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team, the incredibly difficult decision was made to cancel tonight’s show. This decision was made under the advisement of local authorities, the venue, and my security team,” Langley said on Instagram.

“I know how much time, travel, money, and planning goes into coming to a show, and I can’t tell you how sorry I am. This is not a decision that was made lightly. I was so looking forward to spending tonight with you, but your safety will always mean more to me than anything else. I refuse to put anyone in harm’s way,” she said in the statement.

Local authorities did the usual sweep of the arena that is undertaken prior to big events and found nothing of concern, but someone later called in a threat.

Tulsa Police Department Captain Richard Meulenberg told a local news outlet that the individual said that “someone’s going to do great harm to the people here at this event, in the way of you know, shots fired and bombs, so we came out again in an overabundance of caution, used our bomb dogs again, searched the entire area. We could not find a credible threat here at the BOK Center.”

But the show didn’t go on.

The BOK Center also released a statement announcing the cancellation of the show.

“The safety and well-being of everyone involved is our absolute priority, and after careful consideration, we have determined that the show cannot proceed. We understand the disappointment this news brings and apologize to fans who planned to attend. The safety of fans is our foremost concern and will always come first,” the venue’s statement read.

While it’s unknown whether it contributed to the threat, critics have savaged the singer as “disgusting” and “weird” among other things because she’s a hunting enthusiast.

Langley is scheduled to do a show in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday before heading west for a two-night stand at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The Dandelion Tour is set to wrap up at Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Halloween night.
