James Talarico resurfaces after prolonged absence as Jon Favreau steps in with damage control

A Senate nominee’s sudden appearance after nearly two weeks of questionably explained absence from the campaign trail called for prompt “gaslighting on his whereabouts.”

Among the myriad complaints to be had with establishment politicians is how frequently those long past retirement and otherwise simply drop off the grid. Friday, as Texas Democratic Senate nominee state Rep. James Talarico resurfaced at the Austin City Limits Music Festival after his campaign issued a flu excuse, leftist spin doctor Jon Favreau joined in the effort to cover for the candidate.

Sharing a video from Andy Langer, Talarico campaign spokesperson JT Ennis wrote on X, “Hate to disappoint the conspiracy theorists, but James is still alive and meeting with voters at ACL today.”

The same video was shared by former Trump fundraiser Caroline Wren, who wrote, “Talarico spotted for his first in person appearance since September 28. Let the gaslighting on his whereabouts the past 10 days begin!”

As was reported, the Senate hopeful’s absence from the campaign trail not only called into question whether the politician was fit to serve, but also why it took so long to cook up a flu excuse that could have readily been milked for sympathy points.

The absence found claims circulating on social media about Talarico’s mental health, as even President Donald Trump sounded off with a Truth Social post on Thursday, “TalaFREAKo has been missing for 12 days! Now, after looking for him throughout all of Texas, and beyond, probably even weirder places than anyone would think possible, he put out a statement that he has the ‘flu.’ 12 days is a long time to rid yourself of the so-called flu bug. What’s going on?”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Talarico’s Republican rival, had taken to distributing missing person and wanted posters during the alleged “full-blown mental Tala-freak-out on the national stage.”

Following the reappearance at a music festival, Paxton took multiple digs at his opponent, writing, “James Talarico skipped out on the Hispanic business leaders, canceled on the Central Texas African American Civic Engagement Symposium, and tried to pass off old content as new. He doesn’t get to reappear like nothing happened after ghosting the 31 million Texans he wants to represent for two weeks.”

“The ‘flu’ didn’t stop him from meeting with New York billionaires and Hollywood elites, or from partying with celebrities at a music festival most working Texas don’t have the luxury of attending, especially after taking two weeks off work,” added the Lone Star State’s top cop. “Must be nice after two weeks of PTO.”

Issuing a direct response to former Republican Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, who cited anonymous sources in his own contention the Democrat had been in a mental health facility, Favreau, podcaster and one-time director of speechwriting for then-President Barack Obama, wrote on X,  “Talarico is set to campaign this weekend after 8 days of a flu that landed him in urgent care, which we know because he did a virtual event on 9/30 where he appeared visibly ill. Perhaps this is actually a time to pray for Pratt, who’s got Elon/Trump levels of Twitter brain-poison.”

Along with reminders about the narrative the left spun about “Weekend at Bernie’s” President Joe Biden, a fairly brutal rebuke of Favreau slammed the “weasel sophist” with a reminder that intention does not equal action: “I’M ‘set to campaign’, doesn’t mean I will follow through. So GTFOOH, Jon. His website disputes your account. Go pray for yourself, maybe He will hear you and grant you some additional brain cells somehow…”
