‘Courage to Be Free’: DeSantis pens new book mapping Florida’s blueprint for America’s revival

Though Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has remained mum on his intentions for 2024, the timing of his latest move decrying the “entrenched elites” and the damage they’ve caused to the country has only furthered speculation of a presidential run.

Throughout his reelection campaign for governor, DeSantis kept the focus on his home state, repeatedly dismissing talk of what his future political plans were but never outright denying them. Now from Broadside, the conservative imprint of Harper Collins, America’s Governor is slated to release an autobiography which may be the best indicator yet of a coming head-to-head matchup between him and already announced candidate, former President Donald Trump.

Entitled “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival,” the publisher described the book as “A firsthand account from the blue-collar boy who grew up to take on Disney and Dr. Fauci, The Courage to Be Free delivers something no other politician’s memoir has before: stories of victory. This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rally cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties.”

Sharing the announcement with Fox News, a statement from DeSantis was provided where he reminded voters that the victories seen in the culture war that led to his blowout victory over Democratic challenger former Rep. Charlie Crist by nearly 20 points were a testament to their willingness to not back down.

He stated that “what Florida has done is establish a blueprint for governance that has produced tangible results while serving as a rebuke to the entrenched elites who have driven our nation into the ground. Florida is proof positive that we, the people, are not powerless in the face of these elites.”

Broadside explained to Fox News that, in addition to detailing the governor’s marriage to Casey DeSantis, her battle with cancer and their children, it “will center on critical issues that brought [DeSantis] to the center of the debate over the future of our country. He shares his thinking from when he was fighting back against COVID mandates and restrictions, critical race theory, woke corporations” and “the partisan legacy media.”

They highlighted its chronicling of “his bold, substantial policy achievements.”

The offering from DeSantis is his second book, with his first, “Dreams From Our Founding Fathers: First Principles in the Age of Obama,” having been released Sept. 2011 prior to his election to Congress where he became a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus.

Eric Nelson, an editorial director and vice president with Broadside, said “everyone can see Gov. Ron DeSantis is a gifted leader, and now people will discover he’s also a gifted writer. His book explains how he applies his sense of True North to life and to leadership.”

Other political figures who’ve been rumored to be running for president and have released, or are set to release books, include former Vice President Mike Pence with the autobiography, “So Help Me God;” former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) with, “If You Want Something Done: Leadership Lessons from Bold Women;” and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s forthcoming memoir, “Never Give an Inch: Fighting for the America I Love.”

While polls pitting DeSantis against Trump have varied on whom voters prefer, reactions to the book announcement were emphatic about support for the governor to announce a presidential run.

The book is slated for release on Feb. 28, 2023, and is currently available for pre-order.
