Critics say Harris is taking gaslighting to the next level with border policy flip flop

Critics say Vice President Kamala Harris’ newfound proclaimed border hawkishness is total bull and easily debunkable by the facts.

“If someone cares about enforcing our laws as they pertain to the border, you would think that they would be a part of and lead an administration that prosecutes sufficient offenses related to crossing the border unlawfully,” America First Legal director Gene Hamilton told Fox News.

“The Department of Justice’s prosecution for border-related offenses are at rock bottom. They are lower than even the Obama years, and that’s saying something,” he added.

True. Despite there having been 2.4 million illegal border crossings last year, the Biden-Harris Justice Department only prosecuted 20,000 criminal aliens.

“You know, the numbers — the numbers speak for themselves,” Hamilton continued.

He noted, for instance, how, though there were fewer illegal crossings in 2019 under then-President Donald Trump, the Trump administration prosecuted 5x as many criminal aliens as the Biden-Harris administration did last year.

Another critic, Lora Ries of the Heritage Foundation, added that Harris had inadvertently let the cat out of the bag during the CNN interview by at one point saying that her values have not changed.

“She said that over and over again,” Ries said to Fox News. “She is telling her base, ‘Look, don’t worry about what the campaign is saying right now. We just have to say that to try and get elected. But my values have not changed.'”

Indeed, and Harris’ values are as clear as day.

“As a U.S. senator, Harris sought to strip funding from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),” Fox News notes. “And as California’s attorney general, she instructed local law enforcement not to adhere to ICE detainers when they request that someone who has committed a crime and crossed the border illegally be held until they can be taken into custody to initiate deportation procedures.”

She’s also compared U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the Ku Klux Klan.

And she posted this tweet in 2017:

Continuing her criticism, Ries slammed the Biden-Harris administration for “gaslighting” the American public about the border but argued that the VP’s presidential campaign “is taking it to another level.”

“She’s in power right now,” Ries said. “If she truly meant it, she would do it now, and she’s not. But to pretend like you’re not in power and not in office right now is a higher level of gaslighting. I think this is just, you know, for election purposes.”

During Thursday’s CNN interview, Harris dubiously portrayed herself as a border hawk.

“I believe there should be consequences [for illegally crossing the border],” she said. “We have laws that have to be followed and enforced that address and deal with people who cross our border illegally. And there should be consequences.”

“And let’s be clear, in this race, I’m the only person who has prosecuted transnational criminal organizations who traffic in guns, drugs, and human beings. I’m the only person in this race who actually served a border state as attorney general to enforce our laws. And I would enforce our laws as president going forward. I recognize the problem,” she added.

Former President Trump, didn’t buy her rhetoric for one minute.

“Now she’s saying, ‘Oh, we want to build a strong border,’” he said at a Michigan rally Thursday afternoon. “Where has she been for three and a half years?”

His question was spot-on. Despite being named the border czar in 2021, Harris has done nothing — not a single thing — to stymie the flow of criminal aliens into the United States.

And when she finally visited the border in the summer of 2021, she purposely chose a part of the border that was hundreds of miles from the actual crisis.
