A cruise ship company brand ambassador dismissed the “nonsense” rumors circulating online about drinking limits on board.
Cruise blogger John Heald addressed the rumors in a Facebook post, reacting to claims that passengers on a Carnival cruise can now enjoy more than the previous limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per day.
“I won’t share the posts, but it seems today that I am getting multiple posts from people quoting a certain Facebook page with many VIPS that we have, as of December 1st, increased the number of alcoholic drinks guests can purchase in a 24-hour period from 15 to 24,” he wrote in a message on Facebook.
“This is not true. Please ignore what is being stated there and treat it as … nonsense,” he added.
“I don’t think I need to explain the obvious reasons why we would not do this,” Heald wrote. “Please drink responsibly.”
According to the cruise line’s website, the drink packages require that “Only one drink at a time may be ordered,” and that the “Program allows for up to 15 alcoholic drinks, per 24-hour period (6:00am – 6:00am).”
“Once you have consumed your 15 drinks, you cannot purchase any additional alcoholic beverages,” the site states. “Carnival reserves the right to refuse service for any reason. Under the Cheers! program, guests are allowed up to 15 drinks per day, but a guest may be limited to fewer than 15 drinks based on our team’s judgment and discretion.”
Fox News Digital reported that a “35-year-old man died recently while aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise after allegedly being served 33 alcoholic drinks,” adding that the man’s family “filed a lawsuit against the company after an autopsy ruled his death a homicide.”
Heald continued his Facebook post by asking how many drinks they considered too much.
“Ok, seriously, we are not going to do be raising the limit but I have to ask, is 15 enough for you? Could you manage 15 alcohol based drinks in 24 hours ?” he wrote.
Users chimed in with plenty of varied thoughts on the topic.
“I would probably be dead if I drank 15 drinks!” one commented.
“Most i have is 3 a day, tops. I’m sure there are people who can hold their liquor better than me and can do 15 but trust me, they usually irritate the people around them after they’ve tried,” another noted.
“I think 15 is plenty. I have been on cruises with unlimited and the amount of drunks on board was unbelievable,” another wrote.
