Firebrand conservative commentator Candace Owens will remain gainfully employed at The Daily Wire, one of the company’s top execs revealed Friday.
In an X post, The Daily Wire co-CEO Jeremy Boreing said that neither he nor editor emeritus Ben Shapiro “would fire” her despite her recent public feud with Shapiro.
“I am currently on a leave of absence from my executive duties @realdailywire while overseas producing #thependragoncycle. In my current capacity, I cannot fire Candace Owens. That’s something Ben and I have in common since he is also not an executive in the company and cannot hire or fire people,” he wrote.
“But even if we could, we would not fire Candace because of another thing we have in common – a desire not to regulate the speech of our hosts, even when we disagree with them. Candace is paid to give her opinion, not mine or Ben’s. Unless those opinions run afoul of the law or she violates the terms of her contract in some way, her job is secure and she is welcome at Daily Wire,” he added.

The post went mega-viral, attracting oodles of praise from Owens’ supporters, in addition to general fans of The Daily Wire.
“I respect this position though I disagree with Candace,” one X user wrote.
“Exactly how it should be. I don’t agree 100% with Ben or Candace, but I enjoy listening to both of them,” another X user added.

Jeremy, seeing this response gives me a lot of hope.
I really appreciate your transparency on this matter, and you’re willingness to make a public statement like this.
Classy move.

You set a good example for the other media companies. Our country is in desperate need of more free speech, not less. Thank you for protecting free speech, especially the speech we disagree with.

I said this elsewhere, but the fact that Ben and Candace can fight, even publicly, is proof that diversity of opinion is valued at the Daily Wire, and that’s why you deserve my attention, my hard earned resources, and my support.

I’ve always respected that from true conservatives. I could be in complete and absolute disagreement with you, but I will respect your right to express your opinion. And a bit further: I will fight, even at my loss, for your right, because if you lose it, I may lose mine.

Glad to see you post what quite a few of us are thinking. Differences and debate are actually a good thing. Even when we can’t or don’t agree sometimes there can be lessons learnt on either side that can bring us closer down the road.

As previously reported, the beef erupted when Shapiro was caught on camera slamming Owens as “absolutely disgraceful” at a private event where she wasn’t present.
He called her that over his anger at her rhetoric about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Whereas Shapiro is staunchly pro-Israel, Owens has chosen to sidle the middle, and in doing so, she’s greatly angered Jewish Americans like Shapiro.
In response, Owens posted the following tweets, angering Shapiro further:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against…

Responding to her tweet, Shapiro posted his own tweet effectively encouraging her to quit.
“Candace, if you feel that taking money from The Daily Wire somehow comes between you and God, by all means quit,” he tweeted.

For Owens, that was a step too far.
“You have been acting unprofessional and emotionally unhinged for weeks now. And we have all had to sit back and allow it and have all tried to exercise exceeding understanding for your raw emotion. But you cross a certain line when you come for scripture and read yourself into it. I will not tolerate it,” she replied in a tweet.
She later appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show, where she expounded further on how she feels about everything that has happened.
