Mich Tech professor who called conservative students ‘homophobic, dumb, racist twits’ gets replaced

A Michigan Technological University social sciences professor has reportedly been replaced for trash-talking conservative students.

As previously reported, members of the school’s Young America’s Foundation (YAF) built and then tore down a mock Berlin Wall earlier this month to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the wall’s fall.

Afterward, university professor Dr. Carl Blair was caught on audio trash-talking the students who’d participated in the festivities.

“For those of you who weren’t aware of it [YAF’s Freedom Week activism project], good. For those of you who were aware of it, it was childish, stupid, homophobic, dumb, racist twits. That’s the polite version,” he said.

“Because there are, quite bluntly, certain faculty members who are hoping… the students will be censored for this. Because then they can go off and say and pretend ‘Oh we’re victims, you’re restricting our, you know, freedom of speech, we should have, we have a constitutional right to be insulting, violent and threatening. How dare you restrict our speech?’” he added in a mocking tone.

“Strictly speaking, they’re right. They didn’t target a single student, just groups. It was wrong, it was tacky, it’s not illegal – what they did. Stupid, uncollegial, really bad taste, and it shows what a bunch of ying yangs they are. You know, it’s too bad you all have to deal with things like that. Wasted half my morning dealing with things like that. It’s annoying,” he continued.

“That’s not what college should be about. You know, it should be a place where you could learn, experience, do interesting things, have interesting opportunities – hint, hint, study away – uh, rather than wasting your time and having to address idiots. They’re idiots out there. Sorry, that’s life,” he concluded.

Listen:

Fast-forward to Thursday, when YAF published an email from Michigan Technological University provost Andrew Storer defending the right to free speech and announcing that a replacement teacher has been assigned to Blair’s courses.

“As an institution with a strong research focus, Michigan Tech vigorously supports freedom of speech and academic freedom. We follow the Chicago Principles in this manner. With this, we expect an environment of respect and acceptance of diverse perspectives, perhaps most importantly within our classrooms. We regret this has not been your experience in class this week,” he wrote.

“Tomorrow’s class (Friday, Nov. 17) has been canceled, and upon return after the Thanksgiving break we have arranged for a different instructor for the remainder of the semester. You will receive information from your new instructor prior to the first day of class after break,” he added.

The decision prompted praise from Michigan Tech YAF chair Andrew Keys.

“We’re very glad that the university is standing up for free speech and won’t back down even when professors go against it,” he said.

X users also celebrated:

When a YAF writer reached out to Blair by phone for comment, he reportedly slammed the phone on them after saying, “I stand by my words and I have nothing else to say to you.”

Blair wasn’t the only one who freaked out over the mock Berlin Wall. So did the young leftist protester seen below:
