It takes quite a lot to push Dana Perino to shouting, but Jessica Tarlov’s take on the Haley Stevens endorsement was the ticket Tuesday evening.
Perino is known to be one of the least confrontational co-hosts of “The Five,” often going out of her way to allow the leftist co-host time to share their thoughts and opinions before being ripped into by the likes of Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld. However, even she couldn’t hold back on the subject of Stevens’ treatment by Democrats after endorsing Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan, and Tarlov wasn’t ready.
Watch:
“I’ve made this perfectly clear. I think that Haley has every right to do this. She shares a lot of the concerns that exist of some more moderate Dems, certainly some Jewish Democrats, but the idea that she would go and do this in church on Sunday, standing up, her mentor and her colleagues and her staff, I think was a wildly misguided move,” Tarlov harped. “And I do not think she is insane for doing it, but I think it was a I real miscalculation. Dana said, ‘In moments like this you learn who your friends are.’ Her friends are people like Debbie Dingle, Jim Clyburn, and Jamie Raskin, folks she spoke with on the phone late at night on Saturday.”
“Do you see what they said about her?” Perino asked.
“Well, they said that she made a mistake,” Tarlov answered.
“Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!” Perino exclaimed. “No, they didn’t! No, they didn’t! They didn’t.”
“They said she is mentally ill,” Watters offered.
“It would be one thing if they were like, I respect her decision, moving on. Instead, they said she’s an emotional woman. Yeah, she probably couldn’t actually be a good leader, even though six months ago we thought she would be much better than Abdul [El-Sayed],” Perino explained.
“The hyperbole coming from someone like a James Carville, who is more animated about it, is different than what Clyburn is saying,” Tarlov said, trying to move the goalposts.
“You should see exactly what Debbie Dingle said about it. I was actually shocked,” Perino added.
“Maybe she’s not going to have friends on either side from it, but you don’t spend months campaigning against-” Tarlov said, appearing to try to justify the treatment from the people she called Stevens’ “friends” mere moments ago.
“Yes, you do. Sure you do. Why not?” Perino asked.
“No, saying that, Mike Rogers, his record on LGBTQ plus rights is repulsive; he’s a rubber stamp on Donald Trump. If he gets elected, we’ll get a national abortion ban, skyrocketing costs, tax breaks,” Tarlov continued.
“I’m just surprised,” Perino said, settling back down.
“I think she should have just said I’m not going to be voting for Abdul. I think coming out and endorsing and then voting for Mike Rogers at a black church, when she stood up Jim Clyburn, who came to Michigan to try to make this a unity moment and do souls to the polls, is a big stab to the eye of a group of people who-” Tarlov said before Watters cut her off.
“Everyone else sees the silver lining, which is the Democrats are going to church, and that is progress,” he quipped.
