Disbelief wasn’t all that swept social media as conservative commentators and analysts worked to process what “the absolute f*ck” took place Election Night.
Weeks, and even months, of bracing for and attempting to limit or prevent a Democrat takeover of Congress found many Republicans optimistic that damages would be contained — until polls actually closed. Once vote counts started being reported, genuine disbelief blended with cuts to the quick on arguably the “greatest political blunder” that handed the left the House and Senate.
Early reporting, with many races yet to be called, found the Democrats with at least 54 seats in the Senate and a 10-seat majority in the House. What’s more, five governorships were flipped, impacting state control down-ballot, most dramatically in Texas.
Included among the initial shock, gut reactions reflected on how, in the same year that the United States marked its semiquincentennial, the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and just over one year after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Republican turnout — or lack thereof — was insufficient to stave off Democrats’ red-green alliance and all it entailed.
“They murdered Charlie Kirk and they got rewarded for it by sweeping the nation. What in the absolute f*ck is happening tonight?” expressed Newsforce host Joey Mannarino as Article 3 Project senior counsel Will Chamberlain said, “Losing Charlie hurt, man.”

@JoshDaws @0K0Y0S0N And the left paid no price for it. So this is what we get.

Given expectations that GOP losses would happen, just not to the degree they did, there was considerable confusion and panic about the results that didn’t just hand Democrats control of Congress. The left also flipped state legislatures and attorneys general offices, impacting how Republicans will be able to fight against the strongest blue enclaves.
“What is happening…Democrats are winning EVERYTHING!!! They are flipping seats we didn’t even know were in play… … how is this even possible?!!!!!” asked former U.S. Department of Energy nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol.
@mattvanswol Without the SAVE Act, this was inevitable.

Amidst the confusion, commentators who’d been sounding the alarm for months were certain as to a driving force behind what amounted to the worst loss for the GOP in 20 years, just before the 2008 financial crisis.
The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis stated, “This will be the biggest national wipeout for Republicans since 2006, when voters brutally punished the GOP for an ill-advised and poorly planned war in the Middle East.”
Likewise, the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh argued, “The Iran War is the greatest political blunder in the last two decades at least. A catastrophically stupid decision. An unforgivable betrayal of American First principles.”

While the president himself acknowledged the impact of Iran as he faulted certain candidates and Fox News coverage for aiding Democrat victories, others focused on some of the specifics, like the fact that an Islamist was elected to the U.S. Senate and, as The Blaze senior editor Daniel Horowitz put it, “The con inc. political class will learn nothing because their livelihood depends on it.”

Sometimes you get your ass kicked, and deserve it
Tonight is one such time for the Republican Party
Way too many mistakes. Bad messaging. Poor candidates. High prices. Unnecessary war that did not go as promised.
We get up tomorrow and carry on. But there are lessons here.
