Dean Cain latest celeb to flee California for greener pastures: ‘My son is ten times happier here’

Superman actor Dean Cain has had it with the crime and homelessness in California and has sold his $6.25 million home in Malibu, moving to Las Vegas while claiming others are flocking to the Silver State “in droves” to escape the progressive Golden State.

Nevada, Texas, and Louisiana have become home to a number of celebrities recently who have high-tailed it out of the state.

Cain spoke with “Fox and Friends” on Wednesday and said he loves it in Vegas where there are lower taxes, less traffic, and a safer environment.

“I love California. It’s the most beautiful state. Everything’s wonderful about it except for the policies,” Cain told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. “The policies are just terrible. The fiscal policies, the soft-on-crime policies, the homelessness policies.”

He follows actor Mark Wahlberg who has already left California and settled in Las Vegas. Last week he started lobbying state lawmakers to pass a bill that would increase tax credits for film production in an effort to create “Hollywood 2.0,” a nickname that many have called Vegas for decades.

Like Wahlberg, Cain is fed up with the destructive policies that are destroying California.

“The things that our leaders in California have been doing have driven out anybody who can really afford to get out. People are flocking out of there in droves,” Cain commented on Wednesday.

The actor pointed out that he had only made one movie in California in recent years and the film industry has been spending money elsewhere for some time.

“The business has been leaving there for a long time. The prices to film there are astronomical, that’s why people have been filming in Georgia and Louisiana and Texas and other states,” he stated. “The cost of doing business is so much less there, on every front.”

“The hard part is because you’ve got such a great base of workers in California, but everybody that I know who’s working there wants to get out as well. I’ve shot one movie in California in the last, I don’t know, four or five years, everything else is somewhere else,” Cain claimed.

He listed his home in March for $7.25 million and sold it for a million less than he wanted, according to TMZ. After it sold, it paved the way for his trek to Nevada.

“I’ve been here for two weeks now, and I can tell you, smart move,” Cain remarked. “My son is ten times happier here in Las Vegas. If I wanted to do anything out of Malibu, it took me 45 minutes to an hour to get anywhere. Here, the longest I’m driving is 20 minutes.”

“Obviously, Mark Wahlberg is a huge star and drives a huge number of dollars to the films that he does. Bless him for it. I think he’s done something very smart for his family,” Cain told “Fox and Friends.”

“Mark did a smart thing, and, hopefully, I believe I’ve done a very, very smart thing,” he added.

Wahlberg sold his 12-bedroom, 20-bathroom Beverly Hills mansion for $55 million in February. He wanted to give his children a “better life” in Nevada.

“I would love to see us building studios, creating jobs, and just diversifying the economy,” Wahlberg told CNBC in an interview. “I’ve moved my last film here. I’m shooting another film here coming up in the summertime.”

“I think there’s so much more opportunity to be created here. There’s so much growth and so much potential, it’s a wonderful opportunity for everybody to prosper,” he added.

As Cain noted, Wahlberg said there wasn’t much work in California anymore.

“I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting and I’ve only made a couple of movies in the entire time that I was there,” he said, according to the Daily Mail.

Wahlberg has reportedly purchased two properties in Nevada: A $15.6 million 2.5-acre block of land that he plans to build on and a $14.5 million bungalow to live in as construction begins, according to Elite Agent.

Actor Dennis Quaid has found a home in Texas. He was joined by other celebrities in a campaign to make Texas the new filming capital. Mathew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson also appeared in the campaign advocating for projects to come to the Lone Star state.

“Texas did a really good job at taking a big share of the tech industry away from Silicon Valley. You go down to Austin and you can see that really clearly,” Quaid pointed out, according to the Daily Mail. “The same thing can be done with movies and television shows. It’s a great place to shoot.”

Over 500,000 Californians have reportedly left California since the pandemic began in 2020, according to the Daily Mail.

The exodus of approximately 508,000 residents between April 2020 and July 2022 was reportedly due to high housing prices, frequent natural disasters, and high crime rates.
