‘Degenerate evil agenda’: Gov. Shapiro called out over video promoting drag with kids

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) — who is reportedly on the shortlist to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate once the Democratic Party installs her as President Biden’s official replacement in November — had an interesting response to the massive fallout over the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

Friday’s ceremonies mocked God in a live reenactment of the Last Supper, with drag queens portraying Jesus Christ and his apostles. The production included a ménage à trois sequence, with the debauchery surely offending the sacred beliefs of more than 2 billion Christians on the planet. The same day, Harris was featured in the season finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” urging Americans to vote. She taped the segment before Biden dropped his reelection bid, but it streamed on Friday.

On Saturday, Shapiro posted a video celebrating the LGBTQ community with drag queens featured in the footage, as well as a child.

“Everyone has a place here in Pennsylvania — no matter who you love, who you marry, or who you are. And as your Governor, I’ll always defend your freedom to love who you love and be who you are,” Shapiro proudly proclaims.

The popular X account Libs of TikTok summed up things well in highlighting the clip: “Governor of PA Josh Shapiro just posted this video promoting drag and LGBTQ pride with kids. He’s reportedly on the shortlist for VP. Kamala campaigned on RuPaul’s Drag Race. This is what we’re up against. Degenerate evil agenda coming for your kids.

Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps tried to downplay the degenerate display at a Sunday news conference, saying they believe they “achieved” their goal.

“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. On the contrary, I think (with) Thomas Jolly, we really did try to celebrate community tolerance,” Descamps said. “Looking at the result of the polls that we shared, we believe that this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense we are, of course, really, really sorry.”

Thomas Jolly, who is “queer,” is the ceremony’s artistic director, and he told the Associated Press of his shocking effort: “My wish isn’t to be subversive, nor to mock or to shock. Most of all, I wanted to send a message of love, a message of inclusion and not at all to divide.”

Social media users appeared to see through the propaganda… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
