Dem governors pounce over Kristi Noem’s troubling tale of shooting her dog

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s boasting about shooting her dog in a shocking revelation from her new book was an unexpected election-year gift to Democrats.

The Republican leader has been mentioned as a potential running mate pick for former President Donald J. Trump but may have just shot herself in the foot with the ill-advised personal detail that her fellow governors pounced on.

In her forthcoming book “No Going Back” which is set to be released May 7, Noem recalls how she decided that her 14-month-old dog Cricket was  “less than worthless” and “untrainable” to the extent that she led it out to a gravel pit and busted a cap into the poor animal. Then for good measure, she shot a goat as well.

The excerpts of Noem’s book which were published by The Guardian on Friday were explained by the governor in a post to X.

“We love animals, but tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm. Sadly, we just had to put down 3 horses a few weeks ago that had been in our family for 25 years,” Noem said, sharing the Guardian story and plugging her book. “If you want more real, honest, and politically incorrect stories that’ll have the media gasping, preorder ‘No Going Back.’”

The strange inclusion of the story in the book was like manna from heaven for her Democrat colleagues to flood social media with their dog-themed posts.

Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer who, unlike Noem, stomped all over residents of her state’s freedom during the COVID pandemic shared a post by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz who invited X users to post pics of themselves with their dogs that “doesn’t involve shooting them and throwing them in a gravel pit.”

The collection of anti-Trump grifters and sleazeballs at the Lincoln Project also couldn’t resist, posting a video with the hashtag #Justice4Cricket.

“Dog owners know our furry friends can be a lot to keep up with. But when those tough moments come, you have options,” the group said in the video. “Shooting your dog in the face should not be one of them. And if you do happen to shoot your dog in the face, please, don’t write about it in your autobiography.”

In the book excerpts, Noem said that Cricket had wrecked a pheasant hunt by being “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life” and had also killed a neighbor’s chickens.

“I hated that dog,” she wrote, saying that the pet was “untrainable … dangerous” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog”.

“It was not a pleasant job, but it had to be done. And after it was over, I realized another unpleasant job needed to be done,” she added, explaining that the goat had to go too.

Considering the treatment given to failed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney for once lashing the family dog to the roof of the car for a trip, Noem is going to be destroyed by the media.
