Dem mayor ‘fearful that any day’ migrants could be flown to her city, lashes out at GOP govs

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass lashed out at Republican governors over their ongoing relocation of migrants who are pouring over the border to Democrat-run sanctuary cities where they have overwhelmed resources and brought frustration to local officials.

On Thursday, the former Democrat congresswoman, who was elected last year to head up the City of Angels, expressed fear that her own city would join the likes of New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. on the list of destinations for the illegal aliens who are being transported from border states to more traditionally welcoming areas.

Mayor Bass spoke at the “Visionarios” event which was hosted by Axios and Noticias Telemundo that featured interviews with “newsmakers who cover the Latino experience across sports, policy and culture today,” where she said that while LA is welcoming to migrants, she is “fearful that any day” the planes will start showing up to deposit the unwanted human cargo in her city.

“What they’re trying to do is destabilize cities because it’s Chicago, it’s Washington, D.C., it’s New York, it’s the narrative that these are Democratic-run cities and that we don’t know how to govern and that everything is chaotic here,” she said.

“We live in a city that welcomes immigrants, and so I think we have been able to handle it, but I am fearful that any day, planes could start coming,” Bass added.

Bass would know a thing or two about destabilization, as she is a big fan of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro whom she had gushed with praise about before being forced to walk it back when her remarks became a political problem.

Last month, the mayor slammed Governor Greg Abbott over sending buses of illegals to Los Angeles during Tropical Storm Hilary, calling the Texas Republican “evil” and accusing him of putting the safety of families including small children at risk.

“This evening, Los Angeles received another bus from Texas,” Bass posted to X, formerly Twitter. “That means that while we were urging Angelenos to stay safe, the Governor of Texas was sending a bus with families and toddlers straight towards us KNOWING they’d have to drive right into an unprecedented storm. Evil.”

Abbott has sent over a dozen busloads of migrants to Los Angeles which is among other destinations for those being relocated to the sanctuary cities under Operation Lone Star.

“Texas’ small border towns remain overwhelmed and overrun by the thousands of people illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico because of President Biden’s refusal to secure the border,” Abbott said in a statement. “Los Angeles is a major city that migrants seek to go to, particularly now that its city leaders approved its self-declared sanctuary city status. Our border communities are on the frontlines of President Biden’s border crisis, and Texas will continue providing this much-needed relief until he steps up to do his job and secure the border.”

This week, Bass was mentioned as a possible replacement for Vice President Kamala Harris amid questions about President Joe Biden stepping down due to dismal polling and obvious signs of rapidly encroaching senility.

“Biden could encourage a more open vice-presidential selection process that could produce a stronger running mate. There are many good alternatives, starting with now-Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass, whom I wish Biden had chosen in the first place, or Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. But breaking up the ticket would be a free-for-all that could alienate Black women, a key constituency. Biden might end up more vulnerable,” wrote the Washington Post’s David Ignatius in his column calling for Biden and Harris to drop their bid for reelection.
