If Democrats regain control of Congress in the midterm elections, Trump administration staffers could soon find themselves in the crosshairs, according to ominous remarks from one of the party’s top senators.
At an event at the University of Chicago last week, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) said a potential new Democrat majority needs to “go after” those who have enabled President Donald J. Trump, including on things like his prized new White House ballroom.
The former CIA analyst suggested that Democrats need to pick out a few “signature cases” to focus on what she called “unbelievable corruption” and to go after those who have done Trump’s “bidding.” It will also serve the purpose of discouraging college students from working for the administration after they get out of school.
ON UCHICAGO CAMPUS: U.S. Senator from Michigan Elissa Slotkin hopes planned political prosecutions of republican leaders will scare young conservatives from getting involved in politics.

“Pick those signature cases and go hard on accountability. Not just Trump, right?” Slotkin said. “Because, of course, there will be moments of ‘Let’s go after Trump himself.’ As someone who voted to impeach him twice, he’s still there, right?”
“But the people around Donald Trump who are doing his bidding and enabling this have no such immunity,” she continued. “They have no immunity the way the president does, and to me, he couldn’t do any of this stuff without all of those people saluting and supporting it. So you go after the people who do his bidding.”
After stating that a top priority of a Dem majority would be to find a way to “Trump-proof” the federal government, Slotkin said that the pursuit of the “signature cases” would be a great way to send a message to young conservatives.
“I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? That sounds fun, I might get an opportunity,’” the Michigan Democrat stated.
“I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that,’” the senator added. “I want that deterrence message sent.”
Slotin fired back at criticism of her chilling remarks by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), a GOP Senate colleague and devout ally of the president.
Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump’s weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like, as recently as last week. This is a subject I know something about: Less than a year ago, Trump directed the DOJ and FBI to investigate me, and then tried to criminally indict me for a 90 second video, exercising basic free speech. The same free speech you’re exercising now, lying about what I said in this clip. If not for an anonymous group of grand jury members standing up for America’s laws, I’d be criminally indicted for sedition. President Trump has turned the government against people, with raucous support from you and virtually all D.C. Republicans. So spare us the manufactured outrage.
America must be a place where the rule of law still matters. Those laws should apply to everyone equally. If you have aided in the corrupt use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to benefit the President or his family, or you have violated the law in order to carry out guidance from the President, you should be held accountable. And given how rampant that corruption appears to the average American, people looking to work for his Administration should realize that while the Supreme Court has granted the President immunity, it has not done the same for those who do illegal things at his behest.

Democrats love to get on their high horse about Trump weaponizing the government, but the truth is that they are the ones who wrote the playbook.
