Dem senator plumbs the ‘despicable’ depths by using Pete Hegseth’s young daughter to smear him

Tuesday’s Senate confirmation hearings for Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth were marred by Democrats competing with each other for social media attention and one senator showed the “despicable” depths that the party is willing to sink to.

With Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer unleashing the dogs to smear the decorated military veteran, it was Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) who crossed the line into outright indecency by bringing up Hegseth’s 7-year-old daughter, a new low for a party that has lost its way.

“So you think you are completely cleared because you committed no crime?” Kaine asked, referring to a 2017 incident in which he was accused of sexual assault, an allegation that he was cleared of wrongdoing in but still served as the basis for a media smear campaign after President-elect Donald J. Trump tapped him to head up the Pentagon.

“That’s your definition of cleared. You had just fathered a child two months before by a woman that was not your wife. I am shocked that you would stand here and say you’re completely cleared. Can you so casually cheat on a second wife and cheat on the mother of a child who had been born two months before? And you tell us you are completely cleared? How is that completely cleared?” Kaine said.

“Senator, her child’s name is Gwendolyn Hope Hegseth, and she’s a child of God,” Hegseth calmly responded, not letting the vile Democrat get under his skin. “She’s 7 years old, and I am glad she’s here.”

“And you cheated on the mother of that child,” Kaine then said. “Less than two months after that daughter was born, didn’t you?”

Hegseth didn’t give Kaine the response that he wanted, cooly pointing out the nature of the “false charges” and reminding the senator that he had been “completely cleared” and was “grateful” to the “amazing woman” behind him, referring to his wife.

But Kaine just wouldn’t let it go, “You’ve admitted that you had sex at that hotel in October 2017. You said it was consensual. Isn’t that correct?”

“As I’ve acknowledged to everyone in this committee, I’m not a perfect person. I’m not claiming to be,” Hegseth said but was cut off by the Democrat who accused him of withholding information about the incident when vetted by Trump’s team before moving on to another smear, that the Fox News host is a drunk.

Kaine, who is most well known for being Hillary Clinton’s running mate during her doomed 2016 campaign, was slammed for his line of attack, with CNN’s Scott Jennings suggesting that he sounded like a “sex pervert” for going there with Hegseth’s young daughter.

X users also reacted to the Dem senator’s beyond-the-pale use of a child to smear her father as well as his flaming hypocrisy.

Kaine also brought up the unprovable allegations that have been used by Democrats and their friends in the media to besmirch Hegseth, including that he once chanted “Kill all Muslims” at a bar, all of which were rejected by the nominee as “anonymous false charges.”

Democrats’ strident attacks against Hegseth during the ugly hearing may have the opposite effect and were so over the top that they may end up backfiring and sealing the deal with Republicans who will likely vote to confirm him.
