Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is optimistic that her legislation to “permanently” remove pedophiles from the streets will be signed into law by incoming President Donald J. Trump.
The Florida Republican unveiled a set of bills that could make child molesters pay the ultimate price for their depravity, including the death penalty for those convicted of sex crimes against kids.
“If you are raping someone, if you’re molesting someone, you are essentially murdering their soul. Those people never actually fully recover. I’ve actually sat on a committee with a very prominent [female House Democrat] who actually talked about the fact that she was molested as a child. And so you can see that it impacts and really hurts people,” Luna told Fox News Digital in a Tuesday interview.

She said that Trump was receptive to the idea when she brought it up during a weekend visit to Mar-a-Lago where she was among members of the House Freedom Caucus who met with the president-elect.
“I got the impression that he absolutely is supportive of anything in this sector,” Luna told the outlet.
Two of the three bills introduced in the 119th Congress on Tuesday would require at least life behind bars for pedophiles who could also face the death sentence.
“The days of inaction against those who prey on children and sexually abuse adults are over,” Rep. Luna wrote in a Tuesday post to X. “Pedophiles deserve the death penalty or to rot in jail where they belong—NO MERCY, NO ESCAPE.”

Luna told Fox News Digital that she and Trump discussed the possibility of him issuing an executive order to impose the death penalty for crimes involving pedophilia but that it “would likely be impossible to accomplish that way.”
“He would be willing to sign an [executive order]. But the fact is, is that it has to go through Congress first. So it would have to come to his desk that way,” the congresswoman said.
She had previously introduced the bills in the last Congress but for some reason, they didn’t draw much support and never received a full House vote.
“I was really pushing this last Congress, and I was pretty surprised that there didn’t seem to be a massive appetite to push this,” Luna said. “I mean, it got a lot of good press but when it was introduced you just didn’t see a lot of my colleagues wanting to jump on board.”
She admitted that some lawmakers would have been discouraged by the death penalty being included in legislation that should have gotten bipartisan support but said that child sex predators “cannot be rehabilitated.”
“If you are going to continue to push forward in a moral society, [then] you need to ensure that people like this, that are predators, are taken off the streets permanently,” Luna said.
