Arguably the most hotly contested race for the 2026 elections, more than 40 people had thrown their hats in the ring from either side of the aisle to take the job of term-limited Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). Friday, a late Democrat entry into the race, 46-year-old Kevin Cichowski, was arrested and slapped with multiple charges after he allegedly attacked his own parents in their home with a cane, a phone and a gun.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the residence of the elderly victims on Friday morning claiming that Cichowski had repeatedly threatened to kill them, “When deputies arrived at the residence, they located the two victims, who were hiding in a bedroom and had reported that they could not leave the home because one of the victims was bedridden.”
“Deputies arrested Cichowski, 46, of Palm Coast, for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of battery on a person over 65, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with a witness, and two counts of robbery by sudden snatching,” the sheriff’s office detailed.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Palm Coast man, who is currently running for governor and previously ran for mayor, following a domestic disturbance with a weapon in the C-Section of Palm Coast.

During the emergency phone call, the gubernatorial candidate’s mother calmly explained to the dispatcher, “Our son came in here, hit my husband with a cane. We’re both disabled right now, just got out of ICU and then he threw my phone at my head and my head is bleeding, my husband’s arm is bleeding and his head is bleeding.”
She went on to recount that her husband had taken a gun out of a drawer only for their son to disarm the man and strike him with the firearm.
Prior to his bid for governor, having only entered the race near the end of March, Cichowski was said to have pursued election as the mayor of Palm Coast in 2021. Between then and his Friday arrest, he was “previously arrested in 2024 for domestic battery, domestic battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment,” according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, following his arrest without further incident at the residence, the sheriff’s office alleged that Cichowski made suicidal statements as he was being transported. As a result, he “was placed into protective custody under a Baker Act,” otherwise known as the Florida Mental Health Act of 1971, which permits officials to commit an individual for up to 72 hours at a mental health facility involuntarily.
“I commend our deputies, [Real Time Crime Center] analysts, and the 911 dispatchers for working together for a safe resolution and arresting the suspect before the situation escalated to a violent ending,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.
