Dems say Biden exec. actions on student loan debt, marijuana aimed at boosting voter turnout

With three weeks left until the midterm elections, even Democrats are willing to admit President Joe Biden’s recent executive actions are “theater” essentially meant to buy votes, but polling numbers indicate the proverbial goose may be cooked.

Following up his controversial move to put the taxpayer on the hook for as much as $20,000 worth of student loan debt for individual borrowers, Biden took further steps to entice low-information voters with marijuana possession pardons and promises of codifying the since overturned Roe v. Wade into law. Democratic pollster Mark Penn, who worked in President Bill Clinton’s White House, had no qualms referring to these “tools,” some of which are evident bribes, as a means to get past low approval numbers.

Speaking with Fox News Digital, Penn said, “There is no question Biden and Democrats are integrating what they can do in the government with their political midterm message. Biden in particular has such low approval ratings that he had to get out there and do something.”

However, after polling just over 1,000 voters, nearly half of which identified as Democrats, Reuters/Ipsos still found Biden with only 40 percent approval hovering slightly above his low-point near 36 percent.

Though other polls showed the president slightly higher with numbers ranging from 44 to 46 percent approval, Republicans remained favored to win the House by a considerable margin and even gain control of the Senate as no amount of virtue signaling could overcome the serious problems Americans are facing with the economy.

Biden’s promises on abortion, which only 1 in 10 consider the biggest issue, could not overcome his obvious failures to combat inflation and recession which a third of respondents viewed as the leading problem in the country.

“When I worked with President Clinton, we did the same thing. We would put out all the tools ahead of election season and hope to encourage our voters to come out as much as possible,” Penn said.

Alex Berenson, author of “Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence,” recently indicated these actions are less about the voters and more about capitulating to allies.

“I don’t have a huge problem with this for a couple reasons, I mean, I don’t think anybody should be in prison for marijuana possession. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t necessarily put people in prison for trafficking, or farming, but possession, I think there is a pretty clear consensus that you shouldn’t go to jail for that,” he said. “But more importantly, this is just pure theater… effectively it’s meaningless.”

“He has basically indicated that he’s not going to allow legalization and I think this was essentially a sop to people in his administration who wanted to look good before the midterms,” Berenson added.

A similar move was taken at a more local level when Biden visited Colorado and designated WWII U.S. Army training center Camp Hall a national monument to help Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) with his campaign.

“He came to the White House, and he said ‘I told you what I need,’ and I said, ‘I’ll do it.'” Biden told those at the event in Vail. “You know why? I was worried he’d never leave the damn White House.”

“It is good policy, but it could also encourage base voters as the midterms are looking more and more to be a turnout election,” Democratic strategist and former Biden campaign surrogate Kevin Walling told Fox News.

The outlet also indicated that where Biden has seen an increase in approval has been with voters under 45 where he has had an eight-point jump from the month before. This holds true to a generic ballot poll conducted by The New York Times/Siena College that showed Democrats losing dramatically in the 45 to 64-year-old demographic but winning in younger brackets, further supporting the notion that the president held off to attempt actions he could have on day one to attempt and curry favor solely for the election.
