Dershowitz floats idea for Trump to spin Bragg’s ‘foolish’ indictment in his favor: ‘May help him win’

Legal icon — and self-avowed liberal — Alan Dershowitz has a suggestion for the now-indicted Donald Trump: Turn his mug shot into his 2024 presidential campaign poster.

“It will occur,” Dershowitz said of the fingerprinting and mug shot of Trump, “and the most popular t-shirt in American history will contain a picture of President Trump’s mug shot.

“That will become his campaign poster,” he told Newsmax host Sean Spicer on Thursday, “and that may help him help him win the nomination.”

And the former Harvard Law School professor is probably right.

As BizPac Review reported, the string of frivolous, blatantly political lawsuits and nonstop harassment that has plagued Trump — from Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg’s paper-thin case involving what is essentially a perfectly legal non-disclosure agreement with a pornstar to the case against him in Georgia to the shocking raid by the FBI on his Mar-a-Lago home — has put him way ahead in a new Republican primary poll.

With 15 announced and potential candidates for the 2024 GOP nomination to choose from, Trump has, since just February, doubled his lead, and now towers over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis by 30 points (54% – 24%), according to the Fox News survey.

Add a mug shot to that and many believe the Democrats will make a martyr of their enemy, as he will become the embodiment of every working-class American who has been bullied and banned since President Biden took over the White House.

“This is the thinnest case — the most stretched case — I’ve ever seen,” Dershowitz told Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren, also on Thursday. “This is coming from a liberal Democrat who plans to vote for Biden again if he runs against Trump.”

“This is not about politics,” he stressed. “I love the legal system. I’ve been doing this for sixty years. I’ve never quite seen a case like this… the first prosecution of a man who is running for president against an incumbent Democrat — being indicted by a Democrat, a popularly-elected Democrat, on a case as thin as this.

To Spicer, Dershowitz called Bragg’s indictment a “foolish decision” and predicted the case will ultimately be thrown out.

“I think the most important this is, they indicted [Trump] while he was out of New York,” he said. “And that means they could have indicted him within the statute of limitations when he was out of New York. The statute of limitations is way expired. They claim they couldn’t have indicted him because he was outside of New York, but now they’ve indicted him when he’s not in New York. So they made a foolish, foolish decision which will cause the case to be thrown out, I think, on statute of limitations grounds. ”

Dershowitz said Trump’s lawyers need to make an immediate motion to dismiss on those grounds “and on the grounds that the alleged crime doesn’t fit.”

In the meantime, he said Trump will be photographed and fingerprinted.

As for how that process will play out, Dershowitz says, “They’ll probably work it out so he can walk in through the back door if he chooses to do that or be driven in.”

“But he will be mugged shot and fingerprinted,” he said. “There’s really no way around that.”
