DeSantis has commanding edge over Trump among Florida Republicans: poll

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a rising star in Republican party politics and nowhere more so than in the Sunshine State where his leadership has been the gold standard for national governors and where he is more popular than former President Donald J. Trump.

In a new poll obtained and reported by NBC News, DeSantis is mopping the floor with Trump as far as Florida Republicans are concerned, a result that bolsters the argument of some in the GOP that the party is in need of a new younger and less polarizing face for the 2024 election cycle which is just around the corner.

According to NBC News, “The survey, conducted by the GOP firm Ragnar Research Partners, shows that 86 percent of Republican voters have a favorable impression of the governor in the wake of his historic 20-percentage point thrashing of Democrat Charlie Crist in his re-election, while only 10 percent have an unfavorable view. His net approval rating of 76 percentage points is surpassed in the poll by the share of those Republicans who have a very favorable impression, 79 percent — a crucial measurement of intensity.”

“In contrast, Trump’s “very favorable” rating is 48 percent in the poll. With 70 percent approving of him overall and 26 percent disapproving, Trump’s total net favorable rating is 44 points — 32 points lower than DeSantis among Republicans,” the outlet reported.

The poll comes a month after DeSantis crushed his hapless Democrat opponent Charlie Crist, a feckless pro-lockdown party jumper in a brutal 20 point beatdown that served as an exclamation point on the governor’s COVID policies that rejected the authoritarianism of Washington D.C. and blue states by keeping Floridians free while focusing on mitigating the effects of the virus among those at the highest risk.

The poll’s results caught the eye of Trump antagonist Maggie Haberman of the New York Times who couldn’t resist trolling the ex-POTUS by retweeting the NBC story.

The activist reporter seems to believe that her amplification of reporter Marc Caputo’s scoop will get attention from Trump who regularly lashes out at “Maggot Haberman” who has spent years churning out stories that reflect negatively on him and just had a new anti-Trump book published.

The poll not only comes at a time when DeSantis is rising but also at a low point for Trump who has been fiercely criticized if not outright blamed for the midterm election disaster when the predicted “red wave” never materialized despite the deep unpopularity of President Joe Biden and the ruinous effects of Democrat policies, including the worst inflation in four decades.

Trump has also been the target of a vicious smear campaign after rapper Kanye West showed up for a dinner at Mar-a-Lago with white nationalist Nick Fuentes tagging along as an uninvited guest last month, a stunt that some suspect may have been a setup orchestrated by “Ye” whose slew of recent comments about Jewish people in positions of power have been widely denounced as anti-Semitic.

“Ron DeSantis’ favorable image is through the roof with Florida Republicans and substantially better than Donald Trump’s image,” wrote Chris Perkins, Ragnar’s pollster in a memo obtained by NBC News.
