DeSantis may not be in good graces for long; fresh off the trail, he sounds alarm on Trump campaign

With former President Donald Trump sailing to victory in the New Hampshire primary, it seems there is no shortage of advice being doled out to the Republican frontrunner.

Add to the list of voices coaching Trump on the next moves to ensure a November victory is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Days after ending his own campaign for president and endorsing Trump, the Sunshine State Republican sounded a warning about the voting base that may or may not back the former president if he is, in fact, the GOP nominee.

“When I have people come up to me who voted for Reagan in ’76 and have been conservative their whole life say that they don’t want to vote for Trump again, that’s a problem,” DeSantis told conservative podcaster Steve Deace.

“So, he’s got to figure out a way to solve that. I think there’s an enthusiasm problem overall, and then I also just think there are some voters that have checked out at this point that you got to find a way to get them back,” he added.

This is something the governor saw as a “huge warning sign for Republicans” and predicted that there would be ” more liberal voters” turning out for the New Hampshire primary. DeSantis had already been critical of the media for treating Trump as if had already wrapped up the nomination and even criticized Fox News for going easy on him.

This, he believes, is what may have caused some in Iowa to not turn out for the caucuses which favored Trump and left DeSantis roughly 30 points behind. He mentioned the “lack of enthusiasm” to caucus in his conversation with Deace.

“I think that was part of the reason why the turnout was low, because people had been told it’s a fait accompli, Trump’s up so much in the polls, he’s got the nomination,” DeSantis said. “And I think they’re just like, ‘You know what, we’re doing this again,’ and they’re checked out.”
