DNC chair wildly compares US uprising over ICE to Iran, claims both regimes killing protesters

Massaging an authoritarian narrative, the Democratic National Committee’s chair had an extreme comparison for Minnesota and Iran while a top leftist teased impeachment for a cabinet member.

The second week of 2026 had barely gotten underway when riot season marked an early commencement following an officer-involved self-defense shooting of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protester said to have aimed her vehicle at federal agent.

As talking point-peddling community organizers led fellow leftists in chants across the country, continuing to denounce federal immigration enforcement with increasing hostility, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ (D-NY) hopes to see Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem impeached were followed by DNC Chair Ken Martin wildly comparing violent protests at home to the Iranian uprising against the Islamist regime.

Posting to X on Sunday, Martin started his pitch comparing anti-ICE protests after Renee Good’s death to the situation in Iran, “From Tehran to my birthplace of Minneapolis, people are rising up against systems that wield violence without accountability.”

“In Iran, brave protestors confront a far-right theocratic regime that crushes dissent and denies basic freedoms. Here at home, tens of thousands are marching after the fatal ICE shooting of Renee Good–demanding justice, transparency, and an end to an unchecked federal force that takes lives and tears families apart. Solidarity across borders means opposing authoritarian power everywhere and defending the right to live free from fear and state violence,” he concluded with the hashtags “StandWithIran,” “JusticeForReneeGood” and “EndAuthoritarianism.”

Backlash for the take had included one X user asserting, “This attempt to equivocate these two situation is legit the dumbest sh*t posted on the internet today,” prompting the head of the DNC to respond, “If comparing the U.S. to Iran makes you angry, ask why. Killing protesters. Crushing dissent. Kidnapping and disappearing legal citizens. Ignoring courts. Threatening critics. Terrorizing communities. That’s authoritarian behavior–anywhere. If you’re rushing to defend it, maybe the problem isn’t the comparison. Trump keeps pushing it, Americans aren’t buying it, and Minneapolis won’t be silent.”

Another criticism was met with Martin replying, “Hey, MAGA ghoul, no one is ‘encouraging violence.’ We’re encouraging the rule of law. If that scares you, maybe stop defending people who break it like your failing President and his Barbie Homeland Security director. See you at the ballot box in 2026.”

The exchanges came only days after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) had continued the election year campaign plank of promising impeachments should Congress swing to the Democrats control.

On MS NOW’s “All In with Chris Hayes,” the host had accused Noem of having “essentially lied, slandered” Good, questioning Jeffries about the possibility of impeachment as the guest expressed, “Yeah, we haven’t ruled anything in or anything out in terms of the proper way to bring about accountability.”

“But what’s clear to me is Kristi Noem is deeply unqualified, deeply unserious and deeply dangerous. She’s a complete and total disgrace. She should never have been confirmed by the Senate in terms of holding this position,” insisted Jeffries. “That agent should be criminally investigated to the full extent of the law. And simultaneously, in Congress we need to decisively respond, and we will.”

While impeachment would take Democrat control in Congress, Jeffries expressed his near term hopes to see the legislature impede Homeland Security’s ability to crackdown on illegal aliens as the left remained unrelenting in putting non-citizens and their open border agenda ahead of U.S. taxpayers.
