Trump admin to restore love of country in schools ahead of 250th anniversary

Education Secretary Linda McMahon is focusing on America’s national identity as the country readies to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

McMahon noted the lack of proper civics education in American schools as she discussed plans to restore patriotism, especially in the younger generations, with Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria.”

Elaborating on the Department of Education’s launch of the nationwide History Rocks tour, McMahon lamented how there is not enough civics being taught in U.S. schools.

“We don’t teach love of country. We don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance. We are not creating that same sense of patriotism,” she told host Maria Bartiromo, revealing that in some school districts, “the word patriot was actually crossed out of some of the curriculum in some of our schools.”

“So we’ve got a lot of work to do in that regard, but as we approach our 250th anniversary in July, one of the things that I am doing is we’re going across the country with our History Rocks tour, and we are focusing on civics education and love of country,” added the secretary, who was tapped by President Donald Trump to lead the dismantling of the Education Department.

“And as the president wants this anniversary to be a unifying force around the country, we’re doing our part in the Department of Education to make sure we’re focusing on that,” she added.

“Secretary McMahon and Administration officials will visit schools in all 50 states to showcase examples of high-quality history and civics instruction that bring American principles to life,” a Department of Education press release announced in December.

“The tour will feature hands-on learning activities, opportunities for students to explore their roles as future leaders, and conversations with community members about how to strengthen civic education nationwide,” it continued.

McMahon has been traveling to school districts in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, among others, in the nationwide effort.
