Dodger Stadium nearly empty as thousands protest ‘Christ-mocking’ Pride Night

Catholics in California hit a home run on Friday, turning Pride Night at Dodgers Stadium into “an exorcism.”

Led by Human Events Senior Editor Jack Posobiec, thousands of protestors showed up to shut down the Los Angeles Dodgers’ presentation of the Community Hero Award to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of queer and transgender activists who dress as nuns and “sexy” interpretations of Jesus Christ.

As BizPac Review has reported, the honoring of the indulgent drag queens sparked intense backlash from the moment the baseball team announced the ceremony.

Before the first day of June’s Pride Month even kicked off, the three-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher for the Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw voiced his concerns.

“I don’t agree with making fun of other people’s religions,” Kershaw, a devout Christian, said. “It has nothing to do with anything other than that. I just don’t think that, no matter what religion you are, you should make fun of somebody else’s religion. So, that’s something that I definitely don’t agree with.”

Initially, the Major League Baseball team tried to do the right thing and drop the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence from the Pride Night celebration, only to cave to the “Rainbow Mafia.”

In a stunning May reversal, the Dodgers released a statement: “After much thoughtful feedback from our diverse communities, honest conversations within the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and generous discussions with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Los Angeles Dodgers would like to offer our sincerest apologies to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, members of the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and families.”

“We have asked the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to take their place on the field at our 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night on June 16th. We are pleased to share that they have agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades,” the statement continued. “In the weeks ahead, we will continue to work with our LGBTQ+ partners to better educate ourselves, find ways to strengthen the ties that bind and use our platform to support all of our fans who make up the diversity of the Dodgers family.”

And take the field, they did… to a nearly empty stadium.

Not that the local media didn’t do their best to promote the event.

But it did little to deter the thousands of American flag-waving, sign-toting protestors who blocked the main entrance to the stadium

In a rousing speech, Posobiec stated, “They’re not the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They are the Sisters of Demonic Possession. That is what they are.”

“We have all gathered here today, with the bishops, with the priests, to perform an exorcism,” the devout Catholic told the crowd. “We need to exorcise Dodgers Stadium.”

“We need to exorcise the demons within our midst,” he continued. “Because we know that when the serpent approaches you in the desert, what do you say? You say, ‘Get behind me, Satan. Get behind me, Satan! Get behind me, Satan!”

Catholics for Catholics, a Phoenix-based 501c4, organized the counter-event.

“We are a group of Catholics who love God and our Country,” they say on their website. “Our Catholic faith impels us to make our voices heard in the public square as Jesus Christ instructed us not to keep our light under a basket.”

In anticipation of “hostility from anti-Christian protestors,” the group urged parents to leave their kids at home, the Daily Mail reports. Fortunately, no violence occurred.

While the stadium was virtually empty as the “nuns” were celebrated, video of the night’s game against the San Francisco Giants shows that more MLB fans filed in to watch the athletes play ball.

Still, many seats were noticeably unoccupied.

Ultimately, in what must have felt like salt in a gaping wound to the home team, the Giants prevailed, beating the Dodgers 7 to 5.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, support for the protestors, particularly for Posobiec, poured in.

And by the looks of things, Posobiec has no intention of letting up.
