‘Does not give a damn’ MS NOW host rips Trump for going to UFC as Iran talks collapsed

The fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is in serious jeopardy after historic peace talks between Vice President JD Vance and leaders of the Islamic Republic collapsed on Saturday.

While the vice president was staring down the Iranians, President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio took in the action at UFC 327 in Miami, which greatly offended the New York Times and a panel of hosts on Democrat propaganda network MS NOW, formerly known as MSNBC.

On Sunday morning’s edition of “The Weekend,” co-host Jaqueline Alemany kicked off the critique of Trump’s UFC appearance by citing a savage New York Times piece lambasting the president’s priorities.

“While Vice President JD Vance and his delegation were engaged in 21 hours of high-stakes negotiations with Iran, President Trump flew to Miami to enjoy the UFC’s light heavyweight championship fight,” she quoted the Times column, which was titled “Trump Was Watching a U.F.C. Fight in Miami While Iran Talks Collapsed.”

“It was unclear whether the president knew that negotiations had failed by the time he entered the arena, with Kid Rock’s ‘American Badass’ as his entry song. For the most part, Trump ‘impassively’ — that’s a word used by the New York Times — ‘watched as blood and saliva sprayed out from the fighters in front of him,’” she continued.

“He also took a moment to speak with UFC podcaster and commentator Joe Rogan. What they discussed is unclear, but the brief exchange follows Rogan’s recent criticism, and repeated criticism of Trump’s war with Iran,” Alemany added as her co-hosts chuckled.

Former Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart then quoted another paragraph from the Times hit piece before adding his own take.

“After a week spent largely out of sight but lashing out at his enemies on social media, Mr. Trump’s resurfacing at a match seemed designed to provide him with a soothing balm of male aggression, musky sweat, and cheering supporters — not unlike one of his political rallies, just with shirtless fighters'” Capehart chortled, relishing every word of the NYT column.

“It’s ridiculous,” he exclaimed. “He should be in the Situation Room. If he’s serious at all about a deal, although he said before going to Florida, ‘We can make a deal or not make a deal.'”

“He don’t care,” co-host Eugene Daniels jumped in. “He’s proving that he doesn’t care.”

“He does not give a damn,” Capehart said.

Daniels continued on a lengthy diatribe to suggest that Trump wasn’t even bothering to “pretend” to care about the peace talks.

“He’s obviously proving to the American people, to the world, that he really doesn’t really care because otherwise he would at least pretend to be …if not in the Situation Room, at least at the White House,” he said. “Hell, he could even be at his winter White House, hanging out. Pretending that, at the end of the day, he is paying attention to what’s happening out of there.”

Trump briefly exchanged words with Rogan at ringside after the influential podcasting king came out as a critic of the war in Iran.

If there is any acrimony between the two men, it wasn’t apparent from their talk on the floor of the Kaseya Center, where they appeared to be friendly despite Rogan’s opposition to a war that will largely shape Trump’s legacy on his popular podcast.

Rogan endorsed Trump in 2024, inviting him onto “The Joe Rogan Experience” for a lengthy interview before the election.

“It just seems so insane,” Rogan said last month. “He ran on no more wars: End these stupid, senseless wars. And then we have one that we can’t even really clearly define why we did it.”
