Donald Trump says he just earned cool dad status after introducing ‘big fan’ Barron to iconic sports star

Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo appeared at the White House on Tuesday for dinner with President Donald Trump, his youngest son Barron, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and others (wink).

“The Portuguese footballer sat towards the head of the table, alongside his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, and posed for a picture with Elon Musk, who returned to the building for the first time since leaving the administration,” according to The Telegraph.

While speaking at the dinner later in the evening, the president revealed that his youngest son, Barron, is a huge Rolando fan.

“This room is loaded up with the biggest leaders in the world – business, sports,” Trump said. “My son is a big fan of Ronaldo… Barron got to meet him, and I think he respects his father a little bit more now — just the fact that I introduced you. So I just want to thank you both for being here.”

According to the Daily Mail, Trump’s son “previously spent time in the youth ranks of [the Major League Soccer] team DC United.”

Old clips of him playing on the team went viral back in December.

Ronaldo’s visit to the United States this week marks the first time he’s been here since he was accused of rape in Las Vegas in 2017.

During a 2017 interview with Der Spiegel, the alleged victim, former teacher Kathryn Mayorga, claimed Ronaldo had raped her in 2009 at a Las Vegas hotel.

What’s strange is what happened after the alleged rape.

“The American woman had reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo in 2010, but spoke out with her accusations seven years later in an effort to seek millions more than the $375,000 (£304,000) sum she had received,” the Daily Mail notes.

Critics have alleged that Mayorga is a liar.

Mayorga ultimately lost her suit against Ronaldo.

“The lawsuit against Ronaldo, who has consistently and vehemently denied the allegations, was dismissed by a US judge in 2022 because the accuser’s lawyer relied on leaked and stolen records,” according to the Daily Mail.

The outlet further notes that Ronaldo has been making overtures to Trump for awhile now.

For example, in July he was gifted a Portugal soccer jersey by Portuguese European Council president Antonio Costa. And it just so happened that the jersey had been signed by Ronaldo.

“To president Donald J. Trump, Playing for Peace,” Ronaldo reportedly wrote on the jersey.

And then, while speaking last week with interviewer/commentator Piers Morgan, Ronaldo praised the president’s peacekeeping efforts.

“He is one of the guys who can help to change the world,” he said of Trump. “One of the most important guys is the US President. He is one of the guys I wish to meet to sit and have a nice talk — if it is here, or in the US, wherever he wants.”

As for the Saudi Crown Prince, the dinner marked his first return to the United States since the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi while he was in Saudi Arabia back in 2018.

When the Crown Prince was questioned by ABC News reporter Mary Bruce about Khashoggi’s death, Trump snapped at her.

“You’re mentioning somebody that was extremely controversial,” he said to Bruce. “A lot of people didn’t like that gentleman that you’re talking about. Whether you liked him or didn’t like him, things happen, but he knew nothing about it. And would you leave it at that? You don’t have to embarrass our guest by asking a question.”
