Rep. Eugene Vindman (D-VA) reacted to President Donald J. Trump’s welcoming of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to America by calling for the release of the transcript of the phone call between the two leaders in the aftermath of Jamal Khashoggi’s death.
The Washington Post journalist and Saudi dissident was killed after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul back in October 2018, a gruesome murder that bin Salman is believed to have authorized, according to the CIA. Trump’s honoring of the crown prince has the assassination back in the news after the president’s smackdown of ABC News reporter Mary Bruce brought it up during a Tuesday news conference at the White House.
In Tuesday’s remarks delivered on the House floor, Vindman unveiled the Democrats’ scandal du jour by condemning Trump’s defense of bin Salman and demanding the release of the transcript, which he claims that he reviewed while performing his duties as a member of the National Security Council staff, suggesting that there was something nefarious about the conversation.
You know about Trump and Zelesnky’s call, but have you heard about the call between Trump and the Saudi Crown Prince?

“The American people and the Khashoggi family deserve to know what was said on that call. If history is any guide, the receipts will be shocking,” he said.
“You will be shocked by what you hear,” he proclaimed in a post to X sharing a video of his speech, an irresistible teaser for the anti-Trump media.
Vindman is the twin brother of former NSC staffer Alexander Vindman, who was the key figure in the Democrats’ first failed impeachment of Trump over a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The congressman followed it up with an interview on “CNN News Central” on Wednesday, where he said that Trump’s call with the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia “was about the murder of an American resident — a Virginia resident — and a Washington Post reporter.”

“Well, look, as I mentioned last night on the floor of the House of Representatives, that there were two calls among many with foreign leaders that particularly disturbed me. And one we know was with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, the extortion call. And that resulted in the president’s first impeachment,” Vindman told anchor Kate Bolduan.
“This is the second one that really bothered me. Because this was about the murder of an American resident, a Virginia resident, and a “Washington Post” reporter, and the president — the conversation he had, obviously I can’t get into the details, but it was counterfactual to what the president was claiming last night, what U.S. security and intelligence services have known and stated publicly was the involvement of MBS, and it’s time that the president come clean,” he continued.
“And, frankly, in light of the enrichment that the Trump family has received in the ensuing years, I think it’s even more deeply disturbing and, frankly, shocking,” Vindman added, serving up the pretext for another potential impeachment if Democrats retake the House next year.
“Secret tape that could spin Trump into another cover-up scandal,” read a headline from the left-wing Daily Beast.
The congressman did not provide any details about what was allegedly said during the call, but that’s the point.
“As far as this gentleman is concerned, he’s done a phenomenal job,” Trump told Bruce, referring to bin Salman and Khashoggi. “You mentioning somebody that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn’t like that gentleman that you’re talking about. Whether you like him or didn’t like him, things happen, but he knew nothing about it. And we can leave it at that.”
“Vindman is a bitter back-bencher who nobody takes seriously. He is a serial liar and was part of the hoax relating to the perfect Ukraine call, in which the Ukrainian president said so himself,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said in a statement to media outlets.
