Eco-mob brags about deflating tires on luxury SUVs in Boston, leave patronizing notes for owners

Climate activists took to Twitter on Wednesday and bragged about the fact that their new Boston-based group slashed 43 tires on luxury SUVs in Beacon Hill.

The Tyre Extinguishers (TX) is an international band of eco-friendly vandals whose stated mission is “to make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4×4 in the world’s urban areas.”

According to the group, they are “defending” themselves “against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers.”

“We do this with a simple tactic: Deflating the tyres of these massive, unnecessary vehicles, causing inconvenience for their owners,” they state. “Deflating tyres repeatedly and encouraging others to do the same will turn the minor inconvenience of a flat tyre into a giant obstacle for driving massive killer vehicles around our streets.”

The Beacon Hill hit marked the group’s return from the U.K. to America, and for some reason, inciting others to commit costly acts of property damage against innocent Americans is being permitted on Twitter.

“Great action by the new TX Boston group who last night took out 43 SUVs in the Beacon Hill area, one of the wealthiest areas of the city,” the vandals tweeted. “This is a do-it-yourself movement! Join us.”

They even issued a press release to explain why targeting those they deem to be too wealthy is totally justified.

“The group took this action to render the large greenhouse gas emitting vehicles unusable, directly preventing the outpouring of emission from the vehicles into our atmosphere which further contribute to climate change and air pollution,” the statement reads. “Only large, luxury, gas powered SUVs were targeted by the group; no tires were deflated on electric or hybrid vehicles nor any vehicles with handicap signage.”

They were, they said, good enough to leave leaflets on the cars they vandalized “to inform the owners about why their vehicle was impacted, imploring them to stop using their SUVs and switch to public transportation, biking, or smaller compact electric and hybrid cars.”

The leaflets read, “Your gas guzzler kills.”

“We have deflated one or more of your tyres,” the note continued. “You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you. It’s your car.”

“You will have no difficulty getting around without your gas guzzler, with walking, cycling or public transport,” it told its victims.

“SUVs are a dangerous and unnecessary environmental atrocity, especially in city environments where there are sustainable transport options available to everyone,” the press release declared.

And it’s fine to hassle rich people, the group stated, because they are killing people.

Writes TX:

The activists took this action in Beacon Hill as it is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Boston to own a house. According to an Oxfam report in 2020 (7), the world’s wealthiest 10% were responsible for about 50% of global emissions in 2015 and the top 1% are responsible for as much emissions as the world’s poorest 50%, who will feel the brunt of climate impacts in terms of climate change and pollution despite contributing the least to the cause. The climate crisis is an environmental justice issue and the solutions to the crisis must prioritize marginalized and poor demographics and primarily reduce the emissions from the world’s wealthy. It is not an exaggeration to say that the richest individuals in the world are causing the current and future deaths of the less fortunate and less developed nations and people.

While Elon Musk’s Twitter staff have done nothing yet to stop the admitted criminals, Twitter users are not impressed with their destructive ways.

“What happens if someone needs their car for an emergency? What if they need to get someone to hospital? What if they’re an on-call doctor or firefighter?” asked one user. “This just seems like vandalism for clout tbh.”

“You know you could just put the letter on the car as you do now without letting the tyres down.. right?” tweeted another. “All you’re doing is harming those that may be on call looking after friends or family members.”

And a third pointed out the hypocrisy in the group’s efforts.

“Deflated tires reduce vehicle efficiency resulting in lower MPG,” the user wrote. “Congrats chump. You just killed a polar bear.”
