El Paso councilmember calls clean-up of migrant camps ahead of Biden border visit ‘very unfortunate’

Former El Paso councilmember Claudia Rodriguez called the move by officials to remove illegal immigrants from the streets of the city ahead of President Biden’s visit on Sunday “very unfortunate” and contended that it negates the whole reason for his coming to the border.

Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who were released onto the streets of El Paso in recent months pitched makeshift homeless camps on city sidewalks. But all of that eyesore is being swept away ahead of the president’s visit.

In an appearance on Fox News, Rodriguez was asked exactly who is doing the clean-up in El Paso and why.

“It’s very unfortunate that the clean-up started earlier this week. I spoke to officials yesterday and they notified me that there was absolutely zero community releases from the Border Patrol. So, what that means is that when the Border Patrol has these encounters they take them, they process them, and they release them into the city of El Paso and we had zero,” she noted.

“Border Patrol agents began to clear El Paso. I’m sure that they are just as disappointed because the whole purpose of President Biden coming to El Paso is for him to see firsthand the mess that is going on … something that has never happened in El Paso before. Mind you, we are a city of immigrants. We have people coming into our community every single day and they’re coming here legally. Everybody in El Paso has a migration story and it defeats the purpose of President Biden coming to El Paso by cleaning up the streets the way they are,” Rodriguez stated.

The host then mentioned that it was reminiscent of officials cleaning up for the Olympics and making fake cities for appearance’s sake. Rodriguez was asked who they were trying to manipulate here since Biden surely knows what is going on.

“We’re not crazy. You know, something really bad happened in El Paso. We are the sixth largest city in Texas. We are the first largest city on the border and we had something happen in El Paso that was absolutely unprecedented and it happened under President Joe Biden’s watch,” she commented.

The former councilmember then recounted how she spoke with officials and they finally declared an emergency. Then she started calling for Biden to come to El Paso. She’s happy he’s coming but disappointed that the problem is being hidden from him as Biden arrives, making it appear as if it doesn’t exist. Rodriguez fears that nothing will be done because of it.

She has no idea what will come out of the trip now and there is mounting frustration over all of it. The city is ostensibly being portrayed as one that is not in crisis when it is.

In fact, the problem is totally out of control.

The Washington Examiner reported: “The hundreds of people camped out on individual blocks surrounding the Greyhound Bus Station and Sacred Heart Church have been moved out of eyesight by local El Paso police officers and federal Border Patrol agents, according to four law enforcement officials who spoke with the Washington Examiner on Thursday.”

“The [community residents] that experienced it on a daily basis were fed up and they made it known,” a senior federal agent wrote in a text message according to the outlet. “Crime was getting bad and many residents were complaining. Some migrants even took over private parking lots and were charging for people to use them for parking.”

As illegal immigrants are shuffled around, moved from downtown, and hidden, crime, safety concerns, and poor sanitation is becoming worse in impacted areas. Carjackings, stolen property, and drug distribution spiked with the arrival of thousands of illegal immigrants.

But the president will most likely not see any of that. Instead, he will see an empty downtown and relative quiet on the border which is not a true depiction of the situation in the least. The whole visit gives the impression of being highly staged propaganda.
