Elon Musk mocks Kamala Harris as AI lead and DC residents tend to agree

In the wake of billionaire Elon Musk mocking Vice President Kamala Harris’ new AI czar gig, Fox News decided to ask Washington, D.C.’s mostly liberal residents whether she’s the right person for the job, and the answers were interesting, to say the least.

“Do you trust Vice President Kamala Harris to run point on the government’s response to AI?” was the question the news network asked.

Watch people’s replies below:

“Never trusted her to do much in the first place, let alone AI,” one local, a black gentleman, told Fox News.

“I would say no, because I have no knowledge of what her track record is at this point of anything,” another local, a black woman, said.

“Absolutely not, because I don’t believe she’s done a good job at all as vice president,” a third local, a white woman, added.

She’s not alone. According to data maintained by RealClearPolitics, Harris holds a lower approval rating of 40 percent than even the president, whose approval rating is currently averaging 42.6 percent.

But not everybody was so down on the VP.

“I definitely trust her on the task force. She’s a brilliant woman. Extraordinarily accomplished,” one black woman said.

“I’m not sure that I trust Kamala Harris to run point, but I certainly hope that she gets the job done,” another black woman added.

“I don’t believe that she couldn’t do it, but i’m not on board with artificial intellgience,” one white woman said.

However, her tacit supporters were far and few between, as the majority of respondents were distrustful of her ability to get the job done.

“No, I don’t trust her to do a good job, and I don’t trust the next person to do a good job. I’m against the new technology,” one black man said.

“I don’t know if Kamala Harris has the background and the tech knowledge to really get a grasp on what AI can do and what its capabilities are to be able to in a space that is safe for everyone and not just beneficial for large corporations,” one white man said.

“No, because we have not seen her do anything at all. And then I don’t know nobody’s intentions with that. I mean, I don’t know how it would affect us at all, and then there’s too many people out here now who don’t have jobs and they’re poor, so you know, I wouldn’t. No, I don’t trust her to do it,” a black man said.

“I’d probably say not, because I feel like that takes some real specialized knowledge, and there’s so many different ethical considerations, and all sorts of various things. And I don’t know if putting one person in charge or one person who may or may not possess that particular expertise in charge is a great idea,” a white man concluded.

Fox News’ decision to ask D.C. locals about Harris as point person for AI comes a few weeks after Breitbart reported that the White House intended to name Harris to be the administration’s AI czar, with the goal of her job being to address “growing concerns over the advanced technology possibly replacing humanity someday.”

At the time, Musk responded to the report by asking, “Really?”

Look (*Language warning):

He also suggested that it wouldn’t be “too much to ask” to get “someone who can fix their own WiFi router,” in regard to Harris being tasked with the job.

The news was based on the announcement by the White House that Harris would be meeting with “CEOs of four American companies at the forefront of AI innovation—Alphabet, Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI—to underscore this responsibility and emphasize the importance of driving responsible, trustworthy, and ethical innovation with safeguards that mitigate risks and potential harms to individuals and our society.”

“The meeting is part of a broader, ongoing effort to engage with advocates, companies, researchers, civil rights organizations, not-for-profit organizations, communities, international partners, and others on critical AI issues,” the announcement continued.

Musk wasn’t the only one to respond to Breitbart’s report with increduality.

Look:

Much of the mockery comes from the fact that, ever since Harris was appointed the border czar years ago, she’s done NOTHING to secure the border. She’s in effect been utterly useless — much as she’s expected to be with AI.
