Elon Musk responds to political ‘weaponization’ of DOJ against SpaceX for not hiring refugees

Elon Musk responded on Thursday to the Justice Department’s discrimination lawsuit against the billionaire’s SpaceX corporation, accusing the DOJ of suing him “for political purposes.”

As BizPac Review reported, the Department of Justice alleged that SpaceX’s failure to hire individuals seeking asylum and refugees amounted to “routine, widespread, and longstanding” discrimination against non-citizens.

“From at least September 2018 to at least May 2022, SpaceX discriminated against asylees and refugees throughout its hiring process, including during recruiting, screening, and selection, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act (‘INA’),” the lawsuit states. “Because of their citizenship status, asylees and refugees had virtually no chance of being fairly considered for or hired for a job at SpaceX.”

It marks the second high-profile legal battle Musk has faced this week.

On Wednesday, the entrepreneur announced he would be taking legal steps to stop politicians and George Soros-funded NGOs who are falsely claiming that “hate offenses” are on the rise and are demanding that “hate speech” and “hateful material” be criminalized.

On Musk’s social media platform, X, rocket engine designer and founding SpaceX employee, Tom Meuller, pointed out the blatant problem with the DOJ’s claim.

“So, if I let a non-US citizen see our rocket hardware, I go to ITAR jail, but if I don’t hire a non-US citizen I get sued by DoJ,” Mueller wrote, referring to the United State’s International Traffic in Arms Regulations. “Got it.”

“Exactly,” Musk replied. “SpaceX was told repeatedly that hiring anyone who was not a permanent resident of the United States would violate international arms trafficking law, which would be a criminal offense.”

“We couldn’t even hire Canadian citizens, despite Canada being part of NORAD!” he added. “This is yet another case of weaponization of the DOJ for political purposes.”

It’s a sentiment that many prominent X accounts echoed, with more than a few likening the lawsuit to the DOJ’s prosecutions of former President Donald Trump, President Biden’s greatest obstacle to a second term in the White House.

“Trump and Musk (SpaceX) both targeted for political prosecutions,” said “Dilbert” creator, Scott Adams. “We have a criminal government.”

“The Justice Department is a locus of evil when it comes to abuse of power to advance left-wing political corruption and abuse,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Elon Musk is another victim of this rogue agency.”

“Only in Joe Biden’s America will you be sued by the Department of Justice for not hiring illegal immigrants,” said Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.).

“If you go to NASA’s official website, it says ‘other than extremely rare exceptions, you must be a US citizen to work for NASA.’ But Biden’s DOJ wants to punish SpaceX for not hiring non-citizens?” asked journalist Greg Price. “I‘m sure this has nothing at all to do with getting revenge on Elon Musk for the Twitter files.”

Rep. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) announced that she will be filing an amendment to block the “appalling” lawsuit.

“I will be filing an amendment this fall to block federal funding for this appalling lawsuit,” she stated on X. “This is America. And you are well within your right to hire AMERICAN citizens without getting Biden’s DOJ minions sent after you.”
