Eric Holder reportedly running Kamala Harris’ veep vetting process

While Democrats scrambled to see Vice President Kamala Harris named their new nominee, a different sort of “Fast and Furious” had reportedly taken over the vetting of her potential running mates.

Former President Barack Obama may be holding out on backing a candidate to replace President Joe Biden as the nominee, but his influence remained within the administration and the Democratic Party. This included his former Attorney General Eric Holder who, along with being in charge of their redistricting committee, was recently tasked with clearing picks to join a Harris ticket.

On X Monday, Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason reported, “SCOOP: Former attorney general @EricHolder and his law firm will be handling vetting of running mates for @KamalaHarris, sources tell me and @JarrettRenshaw.”

The report went on to state, “His involvement in the vetting process may reassure Democrats that a longtime political and legal hand is helping to ensure Harris’ pick, should she win the nomination, is free of major conflicts. Any choice needs also to be suited to help her beat Republican Donald Trump and potentially to assume the presidency someday if she were to triumph in November but then at some point be unable to complete her duties.”

As it happens, the current chair of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, who was held in contempt of Congress in 2012 after failing to provide documents on the Mexican cartel gun-running program “Operation Fast and Furious” after being subpoenaed, previously sounded off to suggest Biden’s days as the party’s candidate were numbered.

Little more than a week after the president’s disastrous debate against former President Donald Trump, Holder posted to X, “Cut the nonsense about Democrats not being ‘strong’ like Republicans because we are now engaged in a difficult determination about who our nominee for President should be…It shows that we are a responsible political party and not a pathetic, dangerous cult…That’s true strength.”

The avalanche of those “Ridin’ with Biden” who took little-to-no convincing to throw their support behind Harris despite her not receiving a single vote was as strong an argument as any in contrast to the former top cop’s claim.

With regard to who was under consideration, names that had been bandied about included Govs. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. Also mentioned were Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

While Reuters had specified electability as a criterion, it was worth noting that before DEI had entered the societal lexicon, Hans von Spakovsky of The Heritage Foundation detailed the AG’s influence on the Department of Justice in 2014 to the same effect:

“As a longtime, current employee of the Justice Department told us, Mr. Holder and his subordinates have ‘racialized and radicalized’ the department ‘to the point of corruption.’ They have ’embedded politically leftist extremists in the career ranks who have an agenda that does not comport with equal protection or the rule of law; who believe that the ends justify the means; and who behave unprofessionally and unethically. Their policy is to intimidate and threaten employees who do not agree with their politics, and even moderate Democrats have left the department because they were treated as enemies by administration officials and their lackeys. Another black employee who has worked for the Justice Department for decades said to me, ‘There is no justice left in Justice under this administration.'”

While Holder did not specify his role, he did affirm his influence in his endorsement Monday that read in part, “This election is not a traditional contest between two political parties. It is a stark choice between a tested leader who has consistently shown herself to be pro-democracy, pro-voting rights, and pro-freedom, and a convicted felon who shows disdain for all three.”

“The journey ahead will not be an easy one. There will be disinformation to overcome and lies to counter. If we put in the effort we can overcome these obstacles. We must all do the necessary work to make Kamala Harris the next President of the United States,” he went on. “I am proud to endorse here and be a part of this historic effort.”
