‘Fame-hungry’ Letitia James under fire for effort to ‘up the ante’ in Trump civil trial to $370M

New York Attorney General Letitia James’ “sick and sad” mission of “going after Trump” came under heavy fire after the latest court filing was seen as an attempt to “up the ante.”

Thursday, James is scheduled to close her case against former President Donald Trump in the $250 million civil fraud lawsuit that she had brought against him and his real estate practices. Ahead of that, the Soros-backed AG who campaigned on the promise she would be “a real pain in the a**” to the former president, filed her claim that the fine should be raised to $370 million.

Covering the efforts against Trump that also included James’ desire to have him banned permanently from New York’s real estate industry, Fox News host Maria Bartiromo invited the former president’s attorney Alina Habba to speak on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

After addressing special counsel Jack Smith’s lawfare against her client, Habba was asked to speak to James “and her stepped-up activity.”

“So, Ms. James has, in my mind, always been a bit of a fame-hungry human being that has put her politics, again, in front of the interest of the New York State like she should be,” the lawyer began.

“She decided after a trial where we had experts say that statements were undervalued, where we had experts who were on the Nobel Executive Committee reference team tell the judge that [Trump] did nothing wrong, that his statements actually gave too much information and there were no victims,” rattled off Habba, “and Deutsche Bank said, ‘Hey, we loved working with Trump. He actually paid his loans off early in many instances, if not on time. We all made money, and he over-invested in the properties, the assets related to the mortgages, and he was a great client’ — after that she thinks it’s time to up the ante on how much he should pay.”

The attorney added, “She wants to completely wipe clean the bank account of the Trump Organization. She wants to hurt individuals who have done nothing wrong. She wants to disgorge them of their severance pay.”

In her Friday filing, James argued the disgorgement, “a remedy tethered to a wrongdoer’s net unlawful profits” was appropriate, citing existing rulings and further adding, “it would be inequitable that a wrongdoer should make a profit out of his own wrong.”

“Imagine the lengths she is going to to personally hurt Trump because she ran a campaign on going after Trump, and she has to keep her political promise. It is so, so sick and sad, honestly, for New York,” the president’s attorney suggested.

James had gone on record in 2018 when asked if she would sue Trump if elected by saying, “Oh, we’re definitely going to sue. We’re going to be a real pain in the a**. He’s going to know my name personally.”

“I’m running for attorney general because I will never be afraid to challenge this illegitimate president when our fundamental rights are at stake,” she also said.

“Sometimes,” suggested Habba with a particular nod to gag orders placed on her and Trump, “when they push so hard, they make it obvious that their agenda is really not about law and justice. It’s about politics, and I really do hope these judges will see through that.”
