FBI arrests young Somali suspect for alleged plot to shoot up Mall of America

The FBI successfully thwarted a potential terror attack at the Mall of America, and the suspect is a warning to the rest of the country.

Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, 18, was arrested on Wednesday after buying an AK-47-style rifle, ammo, and magazines from an undercover FBI agent.

Mohamud had allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and was working for months on a plan to kill “30-60” people on October 24th at the Minnesota mall.

“I can’t wait until I kill kuffar man. October 24 is the day insha Allah,” Mohamud told an FBI source in September, according to an affidavit filed in federal court in Minnesota, Fox News reported.

An event called the “Hmong Arts Celebration” was scheduled for the 24th and expected to draw “a lot of people,” according to the affidavit.

Mohamud was born in the U.S. and is the son of Somali nationals who later became naturalized U.S. citizens, law enforcement officials told Fox.

FBI Director Kash Patel and President Trump praised the work of the FBI:

Mohamud was charged with “knowingly receiving a firearm and ammunition while knowing or having reasonable cause to believe they would be used to commit a felony and federal crime of terrorism,” Fox reported.

“Once again, this FBI is moving more effectively than we ever have before at stopping terrorists before they can attack Americans – with over 1,100 individuals prevented from conducting attacks, over 4,000 foreign terrorist organization related disruptions and arrests, a 38% increase, and more,” Patel exclusively told Fox News Digital.

“We will continue to use every resource we have to detect and prevent acts of terrorism and wipe out their networks all over the country. Thank you to FBI Minneapolis, who did an outstanding job in the investigation and likely saved lives.”
